Background: Anorectal malformations (ARMs) comprise a spectrum of congenital anomalies that continue to present a challenge to patients, caregivers and paediatric surgeons. The main objective of this study was to determine the anal position index (API) from anal dimple and neoanus at the sphincter muscle complex in children with high ARM.

Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design, the API was assessed from anal dimple and neoanus at the sphincter muscle complex in children with high ARM.

This study investigated the photocatalytic properties of MoS-doped boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) for overall water splitting using popular density functional theory (DFT). Calculations of the structural, mechanical, electronic, and optical properties of the investigated systems were performed using both the generalized gradient approximation and the GW quasi-particle correction methods. In our calculations, it was observed that only (10, 10) and (12, 12) single-walled BNNTs (SWBNNTs) turned out to be stable toward MoS doping.

Hernia is defined as a protrusion of part or whole of a viscera through an abnormal opening in the wall of the cavity containing the viscera. Strangulation of the viscera within the hernial sac is a common complication in our environment, and this occurs in both adult and children. We study the presentation and management of a 3-month-old infant with groin enterocutaneous fistula following a neglected inguinal hernia.

Metal fume pollutants of urban Kano, a city of over 10 million people, and widespread metal works have increased exposure with related health effects. Few data on metal fume toxicity and atmospheric levels have been documented in Nigeria and Kano in particular. Hence, the work was aimed at evaluating the metal fume toxicity to laboratory rat species for setting the permissible limit of exposure in urban Kano.

Introduction: Intussusception is the process of invagination of a bowel segment into the adjoining intestinal lumen which may cause bowel obstruction and gangrene. It commonly occurs in infants at a mean age of 9-months with male preponderance. The condition has excellent prognosis if diagnosis is made early and appropriate treatment commenced and mortality rate from intussusception in children can be less than 1%.

Intestinal perforation is a life-threatening complication of typhoid fever commonly seen in developing countries, but extraintestinal complications are infrequently reported. We report herein two cases of gangrene seen in children managed for typhoid intestinal perforation, highlighting the challenges faced in their management.

Background: Intestinal perforation is a serious but poorly understood complication of typhoid fever. This study aims to determine the patient factors associated with postoperative morbidity and mortality.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of all children presenting to our unit with typhoid intestinal perforation (TIP) between March 2009 and December 2013.

Background: The few studies available in the literature on Wilms' tumour (WT) from sub-Saharan Africa have reported a dismal outcome for children with the tumour. This study evaluated the risk factors that have been correlated with outcome in the literature and compare these with outcome among our patients.

Materials And Methods: Cases of histologically confirmed WT between 2009 and 2013 in a tertiary hospital in Northwestern Nigeria were evaluated for gender, age, laterality, symptoms, duration before presentation, stage at presentation, histologic subtype and p53 mutation.
