Background: Prostate cancer is now one of the most prevalent cancers in men in Asia. As the average life expectancy of Asian males with prostate cancer increases with the availability of treatment options, the possible risk of cardiac-related adverse effects arising from androgen-receptor-targeted agents (ARTAs) may be increased due to the greater exposure. We aim to perform a meta-analysis on the incidence of cardiac-related adverse events in Asian patients with prostate cancer treated with ARTAs.

Tropical cyclones (TCs) sporadically cause extensive damage to forests. However, little is known about how TCs affect forest dynamics in mountainous terrain, due to difficulties in modelling wind flows and quantifying structural changes. Typhoon Mangkhut (2018) was the strongest TC to strike Hong Kong in over 40 yr, with gusts > 250 km h.

The development of artificial metalloenzymes (ArMs) offers a potent approach to incorporate non-natural chemical reactions into biocatalysis. Here we report the assembly of Mn(salen)-based ArMs by embedding biotinylated Mn(salen) complexes into streptavidin (Sav) variants. Using commercially available nitrene and oxo transfer reagents, these biohybrid catalysts catalyzed the aziridination of alkenes and oxidation of benzylic C-H bonds with up to 19 and 146 turnover numbers.

Rationale And Objectives: The increasing use of focal therapy (FT) in localized prostate cancer (PCa) management requires a standardized MRI interpretation system to detect recurrent clinically significant PCa (csPCa). This pilot study evaluates the novel Transatlantic Recommendations for Prostate Gland Evaluation with MRI after Focal Therapy (TARGET) and compares its performance to that of the Prostate Imaging after Focal Ablation (PI-FAB) system.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 38 patients who underwent primary FT for localized PCa, with follow-up multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) and biopsy.

Article Synopsis
  • A study evaluated an AI model's ability to detect prostate cancer in scans done at different institutions, focusing on biparametric MRI (bpMRI) scans from both an external and an in-house setup.
  • This research included 201 male patients and showed that the AI detected a greater percentage of lesions on in-house scans compared to external ones (56.0% vs. 39.7% for intraprostatic lesions and 79% vs. 61% for clinically significant prostate cancer).
  • Factors that improved the AI's detection rates included higher PI-RADS scores, larger lesion sizes, and better quality of diffusion-weighted MRI images.

Background: Sacubitril/valsartan, an angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI), is an established treatment for heart failure (HF) with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction. It has not been rigorously compared with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors in children. PANORAMA-HF (Prospective Trial to Assess the Angiotensin Receptor Blocker Neprilysin Inhibitor LCZ696 Versus Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor for the Medical Treatment of Pediatric HF) is a randomized, double-blind trial that evaluated the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), safety, and efficacy of sacubitril/valsartan versus enalapril in children 1 month to <18 years of age with HF attributable to systemic left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD).

Article Synopsis
  • Forest restoration is essential for combating climate change and land degradation, and assessing the costs and benefits of different restoration strategies (active restoration vs. natural regeneration) is crucial for effective outcomes.
  • Current studies often overlook the potential of natural regeneration, leading to gaps in understanding the full benefits and questioning the need for active restoration methods.
  • The study conducted in Hong Kong uses advanced LiDAR data to evaluate vegetation recovery and demonstrates a new framework that combines restoration and regeneration potential, ultimately helping policymakers prioritize restoration efforts to optimize ecosystem recovery.

Background: According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, its member states experienced worsening mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to an increase of 60% to 1000% in digital counseling access. Hong Kong, too, witnessed a surge in demand for crisis intervention services during the pandemic, attracting both nonrepeat and repeat service users during the process. As a result of the continuing demand, platforms offering short-term emotional support are facing an efficiency challenge in managing caller responses.

Biogenic amines, produced by bacterial enzymatic reactions in food storage or processing, serve as indicators in food processing industries to assess food quality and freshness. Biogenic amines also often associated with various health problems, including abnormal immune responses and gastrointestinal disease. Previously, salphen base complexes have been reported but still exhibited low fluorescence enhancement upon biogenic amines.

Background: Inpatient delirium is common and associated with poor outcomes. Although most organisations have evidence-based guidelines to improve delirium prevention and management, delirium rates and outcomes have remained relatively unchanged over time. A lack of understanding of healthcare providers' experience of caring for people with delirium and its integration into existing guidance may explain some of the slow progress in improving delirium care.

Dapagliflozin has been associated with euglycemic ketoacidosis in adults with diabetes contributing to poor outcomes when continued prior to surgery. It is unknown if preoperative use of dapagliflozin may lead to adverse events (AE) in nondiabetic children with advanced heart failure (HF) undergoing heart transplantation (HTx). We performed a single-center, matched case-control analysis of nondiabetic primary pediatric HTx recipients < 21 years-old who underwent HTx and followed through postoperative day (POD) 3.

Chondrosarcoma is a malignant bone tumor that emerges from abnormalities in cartilaginous tissue and is related with lung metastases. Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT) is an adipocytokine reported to enhance tumor metastasis. Our results from clinical samples and the Gene Expression Omnibus data set reveal that NAMPT levels are markedly higher in chondrosarcoma patients than in normal individuals.

Background Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) improves prostate cancer (PCa) detection compared with systematic biopsy, but its interpretation is prone to interreader variation, which results in performance inconsistency. Artificial intelligence (AI) models can assist in mpMRI interpretation, but large training data sets and extensive model testing are required. Purpose To evaluate a biparametric MRI AI algorithm for intraprostatic lesion detection and segmentation and to compare its performance with radiologist readings and biopsy results.
