Flexural strength, surface roughness, and color stability of various CAD-CAM denture teeth materials.

Purpose: To assess the flexural strength (FS), surface roughness, and color stability of additive manufactured (AM) and subtractive manufactured (SM) denture teeth materials, as well as the effect of thermocycling on these properties.

Materials And Methods: Eighty strips (20/material type; 64×10×3.3 mm) and 60 discs (15/material type; 12×4 mm) were fabricated from four different denture teeth materials (Straumann, Flexcera, Ivoclar, and Candulor).

The Validity of the Distress Thermometer in Greek Colon Cancer Patients.

Background: Although screening for distress is a crucial part of psycho-social care for cancer patients, there has not been a validation study for this purpose in Greece. The purpose of this study was to evaluate for the first time the psychometric properties of the Greek translation of the Distress Thermometer (DT) and Problem List (PL) in Greek colorectal cancer patients (CRC).

Methods: Participants were 84 CRC inpatients of the 1st Surgical Propedeutic Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with a mean age of 70.

Emotional perception and theory of mind in first episode psychosis: the role of obsessive-compulsive symptomatology.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of comorbid obsessive-compulsive symptoms on emotional perception and theory of mind (ToM) in patients with first-episode psychosis. Participants were 65 patients with non-affective first episode psychosis (FEP) and 47 healthy controls. The patient group was divided into two subgroups, those with (FEP+; n=38) and those without obsessive-compulsive symptomatology (FEP-; n=27).

[Biological factors associated with depression in patients with type ΙΙ diabetes mellitus].

This study was undertaken in order to identify the prevalence and factors associated with depression in a group of patients with type II diabetes mellitus. 200 patients (127 women/73 men) with type II diabetes mellitus, from Diabetic Clinic of 1st Propedeutic Medical Department of Aristotle's University of Thessaloniki, AHEPA Hospital, were enrolled in our study. Patients, sex, age, duration of diabetes, antidiabetic treatment, diabetic complications, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, blood pressure, smoking, physical exercise and alcohol intake were assessed.

Changes in abutment screw dimensions after off-axis loading of implant-supported crowns: a pilot study.

Introduction: Loss of screw tightness resulting in abutment movement and displacement of the crown or prosthesis may occur from plastic deformation of the screw. This study correlates changes in screw length and diameter with previously reported loss of screw tightness.

Materials And Methods: Samples consisting of a 4 × 10-mm implant (potted in polymethylmethacrylate resin), a standard abutment, and the cemented crown were loaded with a 200-N force for 1 × 10 cycles.

A case of PTSD presenting with psychotic symptomatology: a case report.

A male patient aged 43 presented with psychotic symptomatology after a traumatic event involving accidental mutilation of the fingers. Initial presentation was uncommon although the patient responded well to pharmacotherapy. The theoretical framework, management plan and details of the treatment are presented.

Tardive nocturnal akathisia due to clozapine treatment.

In the following case report we present a 43-year-old male patient diagnosed with schizophrenia, paranoid type, who exhibited nocturnal tardive akathisia or pseydoakathisia approximately one year after being treated with clozapine 300 mg per day. Because of the low occurrence of akathisia due to clozapine, the episodes of restlessness were at first considered as a sign of worsening of the patient's psychopathology. Since the patient was resistant to other antipsychotic agents, clozapine was reinitiated.

Olanzapine-induced leucopenia and neutropenia.

Atypical antipsychotics, including olanzapine, were originally expected to reduce the risk of haematological toxicity and to be safe alternatives to clozapine. We report a case of patient who developed leucopenia and neutropenia during treatment with olanzapine.

Medical students' attitudes toward psychiatry in Greece : an eight-year comparison.

This study is a comparative investigation of the attitudes toward psychiatry of two medical student groups who did their undergraduate training in psychiatry in 1985 and 1993. Attitude assessments were carried out by using the Libertarian Mental Health Ideology Scale (LMHIS). The students completed the questionnaire twice, at the beginning and at the end of their clerkship.

Negative symptoms of schizophrenia and the dexamethasone suppression test.

The dexamethasone suppression test (DST) was administered to 30 inpatients who met the DSM-III-R criteria for chronic schizophrenia and shared similar environments. Four of them (13%) were DST nonsuppressors. The mean and maximum postdexamethasone cortisol levels were correlated with the patient's score on the scale for the Schedule for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms and with the score on the anergia subscale of the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale.

The Greek cancer patient's knowledge and attitudes towards his diagnosis and prognosis.

One hundred and sixteen cancer patients were interviewed in order to investigate whether the Greek cancer patient wants to be informed and whether he knows his true diagnosis and prognosis of his illness. Evaluation of the need for prophylactic antiparkinsonian medication in psychotic patients treated with neuroleptics.

A double-blind study of 42 psychotic patients treated with neuroleptics evaluated the need for prophylactic use of antiparkinsonian medication. The patients assigned to placebo (N = 27) presented significantly more severe extrapyramidal symptomatology, particularly dystonias, than those given trihexyphenidyl (N = 15), indicating a need for the prophylactic use of antiparkinsonian medication during treatment with neuroleptics.
