Along with time and skills, one such neglected facet is emotion work, the management of feelings in relation to societal norms. The purpose of this article is to explore emotion work, as a facet in parental health information work in the care and education sector, among mothers of neurodivergent children.

This article presents a study about the impact of COVID-19 on childcare center educators in Quebec (Canada). Regulated childcare services were closed due to the pandemic between March 16 and May 31, 2020, in areas considered "hot" (highly affected by the pandemic). During this time, some centers were transformed into "emergency childcare services" available to parents considered to be essential workers.

Latent class analysis (LCA) is a common method to evaluate the diagnostic sensitivity (DSe) and specificity (DSp) for pathogen detection assays in the absence of a perfect reference standard. Here we used LCA to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of 3 tests for the detection of Mikrocytos mackini in Pacific oysters Crassostrea gigas: conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR), and histopathology. A total of 802 Pacific oysters collected over 12 sampling events from 9 locations were assessed.

Comparison of Video Versus Direct Laryngoscopy: A Prospective Prehospital Air Medical Services Study.

Objective: Videolaryngoscopy (VL) in the prehospital setting remains controversial, with conflicting data on its utility. We compared C-MAC VL (Karl Storz, Tuttlingen, Germany) versus direct laryngoscopy (DL) in the prehospital setting, recording the grade of the glottic view, first pass success (FPS), overall success, and equipment functionality.

Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study with a convenience sample of 49 adult patients who were intubated by flight crew nurses and paramedics using the C-MAC videolaryngoscope from April to November 2013.

Early detection of piscirickettsiosis is an important purpose of government- and industry-based surveillance for the disease in Atlantic salmon farms in Chile. Real-time qPCRs are currently used for surveillance because bacterial isolation is inadequately sensitive or rapid enough for routine use. Since no perfect tests exist, we used Bayesian latent class models to estimate diagnostic sensitivity (DSe) and specificity (DSp) of qPCR and culture using separate two-test, single-population models for three farms (n = 148, 151, 44).

Background: Emergency department (ED) recidivism and the use of amphetamine and associated derivatives such as methamphetamine and MDMA (MAE), are intersecting public health concerns.

Objective: This study aims to determine the frequency of ED recidivism of patients who use MAE and associated factors.

Methods: The study was a retrospective 6-year electronic medical record review of patients with MAE-positive toxicology screens and single and multiple ED visits in the span of 12 months.

To pool or not to pool? Guidelines for pooling samples for use in surveillance testing of infectious diseases in aquatic animals.

Samples from multiple animals may be pooled and tested to reduce costs of surveillance for infectious agents in aquatic animal populations. The primary advantage of pooling is increased population-level coverage when prevalence is low (<10%) and the number of tests is fixed, because of increased likelihood of including target analyte from at least one infected animal in a tested pool. Important questions and a priori design considerations need to be addressed.

We report acute toxicity from the concomitant use of cocaine and bupropion in a 25-year-old female. She arrived agitated and uncooperative, with a history of possible antecedent cocaine use.

Malignancy-associated Sweet syndrome: acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis associated with recurrence of metastatic cervical cancer.

We present a rare case of acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis, also known as Sweet syndrome, associated with recurrence of metastatic cervical cancer. This report highlights similar reports and serves as an important reminder of the relationship between Sweet syndrome and cervical cancer. Increasing awareness of Sweet syndrome assists clinicians in recognizing characteristic findings and encourages evaluation of patients for new-onset or recurrent neoplastic disease.
