Lipoid proteinosis is a rare cause of voice problems. Hoarseness is often the first clinical manifestation of this disorder and can present years before any other symptom. Therefore, it is very important as an otorhinolaryngologist to be familiar with the main characteristics of this disease.

Intraoperative treatment with paracetamol versus placebo shows no statistically significant difference in pain between both groups indicating that this type of surgery causes little discomfort and does not require specific intraoperative analgesic treatment.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of 1296 files of patients visiting the ER between January 2008 and December 2012. Diagnosis, treatment, hospitalisation, referral, and demographic parameters were evaluated.

Methodology: The study included 1977 patients; 85% of the tonsillectomies were performed as a one-day procedure. Tonsillectomies were performed in Ziekenhuis Oost Limburg by one staff ENT and seven ENT residents between January 1, 1996 and January 1, 2005.
