Experience and Care Pathway of Patients with Lung Cancer: An Online International Survey.

Introduction: This research sought to identify trends in the patient with lung cancer (LC) care pathway, experiences, and needs, across geographies and healthcare settings.

Methods: Patients living with LC for more than 18 years in nine countries completed an online survey covering these domains-demographic, disease, treatment, and patient preferences for information and support services. Recruitment was primarily from patient with LC communities on online platforms.

Venous Thromboembolism at Low Risk of Recurrence in Young Women: Stress and Violence Associated with Recurrence. An International Case-Control Study.

Background:  In young women with venous thromboembolism (VTE) related to weak transient risk factors, it remains unknown whether stress levels and intimate partner violence (IPV) are associated with recurrence. The VTE-WEAK study aims to investigate the association between perceived stress and IPV with a recurrence of VTE in women with a first episode of VTE due to combined oral contraceptives, pregnancy-puerperium, minor trauma/fracture, brief surgery, infection or brief immobility, and not using antithrombotic prophylaxis.

Material And Methods:  We performed a multicenter, international, observational, retrospective study on women referred for thrombophilia screening who were subsequently monitored.

New Upper Limit on the Axion-Photon Coupling with an Extended CAST Run with a Xe-Based Micromegas Detector.

Hypothetical axions provide a compelling explanation for dark matter and could be emitted from the hot solar interior. The CERN Axion Solar Telescope has been searching for solar axions via their back conversion to x-ray photons in a 9-T 10-m long magnet directed toward the Sun. We report on an extended run with the International Axion Observatory pathfinder detector, doubling the previous exposure time.

Dose-response of daridorexant in insomnia disorder: An analysis of Phase 2 and 3 studies.

Objective: Daridorexant is approved for the treatment of insomnia at two dose levels (25 and 50 mg). Dose-efficacy and -safety response relationships were evaluated using Phase 2 and 3 data.

Methods: Data (N = 2153) from one Phase 2 (daridorexant 5, 10, 25, 50 mg, placebo once daily for 1 month) and two Phase 3 studies (daridorexant 10 and 25 or 25 and 50 mg, placebo once daily for 3 months) were pooled.

Directed evolution of material-producing microorganisms.

Nature is home to a variety of microorganisms that create materials under environmentally friendly conditions. While this offers an attractive approach for sustainable manufacturing, the production of materials by native microorganisms is usually slow and synthetic biology tools to engineer faster microorganisms are only available when prior knowledge of genotype-phenotype links is available. Here, we utilize a high-throughput directed evolution platform to enhance the fitness of whole microorganisms under selection pressure and identify genetic pathways to enhance the material production capabilities of native species.

Mucosal signatures of pathogenic T cells in HLA-B*27+ anterior uveitis and axial spondyloarthritis.

HLA-B*27 was one of the first HLA alleles associated with an autoimmune disease, i.e., axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and acute anterior uveitis (B27AAU), which cause joint and eye inflammation, respectively.

Barriers and Facilitators to Improving Cardiovascular Health in Churches with Predominantly Black Congregations.

Objective: Black communities bear a disproportionate burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Barriers and facilitators for improving cardiovascular health (CVH) in churches with predominantly black congregations were explored through a qualitative needs assessment.

Methods: Four focus groups with church members (n=21), 1 with wellness coordinators (n=5), and 1 with primary care providers (n=4) and 7 individual interviews with church leaders were completed in New Orleans and Bogalusa, Louisiana.

Perceived Religious Influence on Health Is Associated with Beneficial Health Behaviors in Members of Predominantly Black Churches.

Background: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, and Black populations are disproportionately affected. Black populations also have high rates of religiosity, which may be an important health motivator, but mechanisms are unclear.

Objective: We examined the relationship between perceived religious influence on health and cardiovascular health behaviors, risk factors, and confidence participating in medical care in Black church congregants.

Engaging Predominantly Black Churches in an Intervention to Improve Cardiovascular Health and Reduce Racial Inequities.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of mortality in the United States and disproportionately impacts Black adults. Effective implementation of interventions to improve cardiovascular health in the Black community is needed to reduce health inequities. The Church-Based Health Intervention to Eliminate Health Inequalities in Cardiovascular Health (CHERISH) study is implementing interventions recommended by the 2019 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guideline on the primary prevention of CVD in Black communities to improve cardiovascular health and reduce health disparities.

Background: The translation of evidence-based interventions into practice settings remains challenging. Implementation science aims to bridge the evidence-to-practice gap by understanding multilevel contexts and tailoring evidence-based interventions accordingly. Engaging community partners who possess timely, local knowledge is crucial for this process to be successful.

Background: Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is the leading cause of hospitalization in infants. RSV bronchiolitis is associated with an increased risk of subsequent wheezing. We aimed to document the parents' perception of the link between RSV infection and subsequent wheezing, wheezing-related healthcare and family resources use, and its impact on family daily life.

Aqueous Macrophages Contribute to Conserved CCL2 and CXCL10 Gradients in Uveitis.

Purpose: Uveitis is a heterogenous group of inflammatory eye disease for which current cytokine-targeted immune therapies are effective for only a subset of patients. We hypothesized that despite pathophysiologic nuances that differentiate individual disease states, all forms of eye inflammation might share common mechanisms for immune cell recruitment. Identifying these mechanisms is critical for developing novel, broadly acting therapeutic strategies.

Background: Favorable neighborhood-level social determinants of health (SDoH) are associated with lower cardiovascular disease risk. Less is known about their influence on cardioprotective behaviors. We evaluated the associations between neighborhood-level SDoH and cardioprotective behaviors among church members in Louisiana.

Relevance of flounder caging and proteomics to explore the impact of a major industrial accident caused by fire on the Seine estuarine water quality.

On September 26th 2019, a major fire occurred in the Lubrizol factory located near the Seine estuary, in Rouen-France. Juvenile flounders were captured in the Canche estuary (a reference system) and caged one month in the Canche and in the Seine downstream the accident site. No significant increases of PAHs, PCBs and PFAS was detected in Seine vs Canche sediments after the accident, but a significant increase of dioxins and furans was observed in water and sewage sludge in the Rouen wastewater treatment plant.

Home and wild food procurement were associated with improved food security during the COVID-19 pandemic in two rural US states.

Both food insecurity and home and wild food procurement (HWFP), including gardening, increased in many countries during the COVID-19 pandemic; yet little evidence has demonstrated what impact HWFP had on food security. Using data from a representative sample of nearly 1000 residents in the two most rural US states (Vermont and Maine) conducted via an online survey in Spring/Summer 2021, as well as matching techniques, we compare food security outcomes among households who did and did not participate in HWFP in the first year of the pandemic. Nearly 60% of respondents engaged in HWFP in some way during the first year of the pandemic, with food insecure households more likely to do HWFP.

The effects of cool roofs on health, environmental, and economic outcomes in rural Africa: study protocol for a community-based cluster randomized controlled trial.

Background: High ambient air temperatures in Africa pose significant health and behavioral challenges in populations with limited access to cooling adaptations. The built environment can exacerbate heat exposure, making passive home cooling adaptations a potential method for protecting occupants against indoor heat exposure.

The migration of helical particles in viscous shear flows plays a crucial role in chiral particle sorting. Attaching a nonchiral head to a helical particle leads to a rheotactic torque inducing particle reorientation. Acoustic Droplet Vaporization of Perfluorohexane Emulsions Induced by Heterogeneous Nucleation at an Ultrasonic Frequency of 1.1 MHz.

Droplets made of liquid perfluorocarbon undergo a phase transition and transform into microbubbles when triggered by ultrasound of intensity beyond a critical threshold; this mechanism is called acoustic droplet vaporization (ADV). Tissue-resident macrophages (TRMs) are long-lived cells that maintain locally and can be phenotypically distinct from monocyte-derived macrophages. Whether TRMs and monocyte-derived macrophages have district roles under differing pathologies is not understood. Here, we showed that a substantial portion of the macrophages that accumulated during pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer in mice had expanded from TRMs.

In situ psycho-cognitive assessments support self-determined urban green exercise time.

Prescribed nature walks frequently yield improvements to mood and cognition as observed in experimental studies. Research that uses real life settings such as self-determined time exercising outdoors for restorative health benefits may more accurately elicit effects than time-specified study protocols. This study examined in situ psycho-cognitive outcomes of routine walks in urban greenspace to test the concept that self-set exposure duration and not context alone is related to magnitude of psycho-cognitive benefit.
