Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of different biomarkers for the detection of carcinoid heart disease (CHD) in neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), in particular serum 5-HIAA (s5HIAA).
Design: An explorative ancillary study of the French CrusoeNET cohort.
Methods: Patients managed in the Lyon-EURACAN Center of Excellence (CoE) were included when they were aged of at least 18 years, treated and followed for an advanced/metastatic ileum or lung NET, a NET irrespective of the primary location or from unknown primary location but with clinical CS, and/or elevation of urinary 5-HIAA (u5HIAA) twice greater than the upper limit of normal.
Insect biomass is declining globally, likely driven by climate change and pesticide use, yet systematic studies on the effects of various chemicals remain limited. In this work, we used a chemical library of 1024 molecules-covering insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and plant growth inhibitors-to assess the impact of sublethal pesticide doses on insects. In , 57% of chemicals affected larval behavior, and a higher proportion compromised long-term survivability.

Clinical validations are needed, including longitudinal and multicenter evaluations.
Materials And Methods: The validation study was retrospective between 2010 and 2023.
Motivation: As more behavioural assays are carried out in large-scale experiments on Drosophila larvae, the definitions of the archetypal actions of a larva are regularly refined. In addition, video recording and tracking technologies constantly evolve. Consequently, automatic tagging tools for Drosophila larval behaviour must be retrained to learn new representations from new data.

Research Question: What are the most relevant changes in CT scan parameters over time for assessing response to treatment?
Study Design And Methods: In this ancillary study of a randomized clinical trial (NebuLamB), patients with asthma with available CT scan and without exacerbation during a 4-month allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis exacerbation treatment period (corticosteroids and itraconazole) were included. Changed CT scan parameters were assessed by systematic analyses of CT scan findings at initiation and end of treatment.
Imaging plays an important role in the various forms of -related pulmonary disease. Depending on the immune status of the patient, three forms are described with distinct imaging characteristics: invasive aspergillosis affecting severely immunocompromised patients, chronic pulmonary aspergillosis affecting less severely immunocompromised patients but suffering from a pre-existing structural lung disease, and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis related to respiratory exposure to species in patients with asthma and cystic fibrosis. Computed tomography (CT) has been demonstrated more sensitive and specific than chest radiographs and its use has largely contributed to the diagnosis, follow-up, and evaluation of treatment in each condition.

In addition, the combination of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) has improved CF clinical outcomes such as need for hospitalization. However, the effect on structural disease still needs longitudinal evaluation at high resolution.

Purpose To assess the image quality and clinical applicability of synthetic CT images generated from UTE MRI by a generative adversarial network (GAN). Materials and Methods This retrospective study included patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) who underwent both UTE MRI and CT on the same day at one of six institutions between January 2018 and December 2022.

Repeated imaging is recommended to both diagnose and follow-up response to treatment of ABPA in CF. However, high risk of cumulative radiation exposure requires evaluation of free-radiation techniques in the follow-up of CF patients with ABPA.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAllergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a rare disease characterized by a complex allergic inflammatory reaction of airways against Aspergillus affecting patients with chronic respiratory diseases (asthma, cystic fibrosis). Exacerbation is often the way to diagnose ABPA and marks its evolution by its recurrent character leading to cortico-requirement or long-term antifungal treatment. Early diagnosis allows treatment of ABPA at an initial stage, preventing recurrence of exacerbations and long-term complications, mainly represented by bronchiectasis.

The pathophysiology of CHD is partly understood but vasoactive hormones secreted by NETs, especially serotonin, play a major role, leading to the formation of fibrous plaques. These plaque-like deposits involve the right side of the heart in >90% of cases, particularly the tricuspid and pulmonary valves, which become thickened, retracted and immobile, resulting in regurgitation or stenosis.

However, when analysing experimental data, conditions are rarely met to ensure model identification. The dynamics may simultaneously be influenced by spatial and temporal heterogeneities of the environment, out-of-equilibrium fluxes and conformal changes of the tracked molecules.

Our approach learns the posterior distribution of the walks' parameters with a likelihood-free method. In the first step a graph neural network is trained on simulated data to learn optimized low-dimensional summary statistics of the random walk.

This analysis reported the incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICER) of an organized LC screening program for an asbestos-exposed population. Using Markov modelization, individuals with asbestos exposure were either monitored without intervention or annual low-dose thoracic computed-tomography (LDTCT) scan LC screening.

This technique, however, may suffer from poor contrast at the blood-scar interface, particularly in patients with subendocardial myocardial infarction. The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical performance of a two-dimensional black-blood LGE (BL-LGE) sequence, which combines free-breathing T-rho-prepared single-shot acquisitions with an advanced non-rigid motion-compensated patch-based reconstruction.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Occupational asbestos exposure is associated with pleural plaques (PP), a benign disease often seen as a marker of past exposure to asbestos and lung cancer. The association between these two diseases has not been formally proved, the aim of this study was to evaluate this association in the asbestos-related disease cohort (ARDCO) cohort.
Methods: ARDCO is a French multicentric cohort including workers formerly occupationally exposed to asbestos from 2003 to 2005.
Purpose: To improve neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN) management, the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS) recognised 62 Centers of Excellence (CoE). This retrospective study compares conformity of patients' initial management within vs outside an ENETS CoE with clinical practice guidelines (CPGs).
Methods: Patients diagnosed with a NEN between August 2018 and July 2020 and presented in the Lyon-CoE Multidisciplinary Tumour Board (MDT) were included.
Motivation: Single-molecule localization microscopy allows studying the dynamics of biomolecules in cells and resolving the biophysical properties of the molecules and their environment underlying cellular function. With the continuously growing amount of data produced by individual experiments, the computational cost of quantifying these properties is increasingly becoming the bottleneck of single-molecule analysis. Mining these data requires an integrated and efficient analysis toolbox.

Methods: A 10-year follow-up study was conducted in the 13 481 male subjects included in the cohort between October 2003 and December 2005. Asbestos exposure was assessed by industrial hygienist analysis of a standardised questionnaire.

Objective: This study aimed to develop and validate an automated artificial intelligence (AI)-driven quantification of pleural plaques in a population of retired workers previously occupationally exposed to asbestos.
Methods: CT scans of former workers previously occupationally exposed to asbestos who participated in the multicenter APEXS (Asbestos PostExposure Survey) study were collected retrospectively between 2010 and 2017 during the second and the third rounds of the survey. A hundred and forty-one participants with pleural plaques identified by expert radiologists at the 2nd and the 3rd CT screenings were included.
