Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to investigate how care consumption before and after diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) affects amputation risk, building on previous findings about the impact of deprivation and healthcare access.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from over 6,600 patients in France, discovering that certain medications (cardiovascular, antibiotics, neurological) and consultations with specialists (like ophthalmologists) correlated with a lower risk of amputation.
  • - The conclusion emphasizes that effective diabetes management and comprehensive healthcare can significantly improve DFU outcomes, even for patients with additional health issues.

Objectives: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV). That is, granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), in Southern France in 2018, and evaluate differences among Europeans and non-Europeans.

Methods: This population-based, cross-sectional study used four sources (hospitals, community-based physicians, laboratories, National Health Insurance) to identify adults ≥15 years diagnosed with GPA, MPA or EGPA, living in Hérault and Gard in 2018.

This regional pilot study was conducted at the living area level and based on the French National Health Data System (SNDS).

Importance: Postoperative endophthalmitis (POE) often results in severe visual impairment. In clinical studies, an intracameral cefuroxime injection at the end of surgery was found to be effective at reducing the incidence of POE. Two important issues are the retinal safety of cefuroxime and its use for patients with perioperative capsular rupture where the risk of POE is dramatically increased.
