Therapeutic Patient Education: A Multifaceted Approach to Ostomy Care.

This contribution presents a literature review of therapeutic patient education and a summary of an oral presentation given by two wound care specialists at a recent European Congress. It relates these to models of care in nursing science and other research that contributes to this approach at the core of healthcare practice.

Comprehensive information before total hip replacement (THR) allows patients to better understand the benefits and risks of THR. Unfortunately there is an important gap between what surgeons say and what patient understand. Preoperative group sessions were introduced in order to improve patient information before THR.

A Prospective longitudinal evaluation of quality of life after abdominoperineal resection.

Objective: Abdominoperineal resection (APR) is a disfiguring procedure, frequently associated with significant urogenital dysfunction. The aim of this prospective study was to repeatedly assess quality of life (QoL) 1, 6, and 12 months after APR.

Methods: Twenty patients who underwent APR between June 2002 and September 2005 were considered for analysis.
