The radioisotopes of Sc and Sc are promising in the field of theranostics for their role as β emitters in theranostic pairs with Sc. Production of these isotopes through various nuclear reactions using either cyclotrons or linear accelerators is of particular interest and previous studies have provided results using accelerated beams of protons, deuterons, and alpha particles. A novel production technique, using an ion source cathode packed with natural calcium fluoride material and irradiated with a He beam, was tested at the Nuclear Science Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame in order to initially study the production of Ca.

Eighty 9 mo (AB strain) zebrafish were allocated to one of 2 equal groups: buffered MS-222 (168 mg/L, = 40) or isoeugenol (20 mg/L, = 40). The time to induction of anesthesia was significantly shorter in the isoeugenol group (141 ± 70 s) than in the MS-222 group (207 ± 103 s).

Adherence, weight loss, anxiety, depression, disordered eating symptoms, and stress were measured. Dieters lost more weight than non-dieters, but average loss was <1 pound.

After noticing a high incidence of morbidity and mortality in pregnant Wistar rats given medetomidine and ketamine for anesthesia, the authors further investigated the effects of this combination of anesthetic drugs in both pregnant and nonpregnant Wistar rats. The time to recumbency and the duration of general anesthesia were similar between pregnant and nonpregnant rats.
