The method uses a couple of intensity Gaussian filters and the dispersion-induced wavelength-to-time mapping effect. The Bragg wavelength is retrieved by means of the amplitude comparison between the two filtered grating spectrums, which are mapped into a time-domain waveform.

In this work, we present DSP-Enhanced OTDR, a novel methodology for remote fault analysis based on conventional optical time-domain reflectometry complemented with reference traces and DSP-based techniques. We first obtain the optimal decision thresholds to detect deviations in the noisy OTDR measurement.
