A new generic model-based segmentation algorithm is presented, which can be trained from examples akin to the active shape model (ASM) approach in order to acquire knowledge about the shape to be segmented and about the gray-level appearance of the object in the image. Whereas ASM alternates between shape and intensity information during search, the proposed approach optimizes for shape and intensity characteristics simultaneously. Local gray-level appearance information at the landmark points extracted from feature images is used to automatically detect a number of plausible candidate locations for each landmark.

Here, evidence for this is provided in patients with peripheral artery disease.
Methods And Results: Expression patterns of VEGF, SDF-1, and CXCR4 were studied in amputated limbs of 16 patients.
In this paper, we evaluate different schemes for constructing a mean shape anatomical atlas for atlas-based segmentation of MR brain images. Each atlas is constructed and validated using a database of 20 images for which detailed manual delineations of 49 different subcortical structures are available. Atlas construction and atlas based segmentation are performed by non-rigid intensity-based registration using a viscous fluid deformation model with parameters that were optimally tuned for this particular task.

The obtained FT-Raman spectra revealed several regions of interest (ROIs) qualitatively distinguishing the different forms, allowing samples with an unknown polymorphic composition to be quantitatively analysed by FT-Raman spectroscopy. The Markov-transformed peak areas of the Raman-bands in the ROIs from the samples were determined and compared with the transformed peak areas obtained for the reference solid-state forms.

Aim: To describe the response of OUES to 6 months of ET in CHF patients and compare its evolution to that of other exercise variables.
The endoplasmic reticulum HSP70 chaperone BiP/Kar2p is both the sensor for the unfolded protein response (UPR) in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and a target of transcriptional up-regulation by this signaling pathway. In this study, the molecular form of Kar2p that interacts with the Ire1p transmembrane receptor kinase to inhibit UPR signaling was shown to be the substrate-free, ATP-bound conformation. Oligosaccharide shielding experiments localized the binding site for Ire1p to the top of the back face of lobe IB of the Kar2p ATPase domain.

Little is known about the possible link between the cognitive disorders associated with hypothyroidism and those encountered in depression. This study examines attentional and executive functions as well as the intensity of anxiety and depressive symptoms in hypothyroidism and major depression and the possible link between these symptoms and cognitive disturbances. This study confirms the existence of psychomotor slowing associated with attentional and executive disturbance in major depression as well as in hypothyroidism.

Background: Divergences in cognitive disturbances in hypothyroidism reported in the literature are a result of a methodological bias.
Methods: By using a precise methodology, we examined attention and executive functions in hypothyroidism, verified the presence of anxiety and depressive symptoms in hypothyroidism, and examined the possible link between these symptoms and the cognitive disturbances (searching for attentional bias for words with a negative emotional valence). We administered a battery of cognitive tests to 23 participants who had undergone thyroidectomy for thyroid carcinoma: for the first time in an euthyroid state, then 3 weeks later (still in the euthyroid state) to assess the test/retest effect, and finally 4 weeks later in an hypothyroid state.
A 5% (m/m) premix for animal use was quantitatively characterized for the polymorph composition of its benzimidazole drug substance. Raman spectra of reference samples (pure polymorphs A, B and C in lactose at a concentration of 5%, m/m) were compared with the spectra of benzimidazole samples with a known polymorph composition and with the spectra of uncharacterized premixes. The raw intensities of 78 selected wavenumbers were vector-normalized and application of stepwise linear regression models estimated the relative quantities of the benzimidazole-drug polymorphs A, B and C in the different samples.

Reports on the severity and reversibility of cognitive disturbances in major depression in the literature diverge due to methodological biases. The present study, using a precise methodology, examined attention and executive functions in 20 relatively young, depressed patients presenting a first or second episode of unipolar major depression without psychotic or melancholic characteristics and all being treated with the same psychopharmacological treatment (sertraline) to investigate the changes in potential attentional and executive loss during a subacute period of treatment of 7 weeks.
