Article Synopsis
  • Ablative therapies (AT) are increasingly used for kidney tumors, but if they fail, salvage surgery, particularly robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (sRAPN), may be necessary, despite its challenges.* -
  • A study conducted between 2013 and 2020 evaluated 11 patients who underwent sRAPN, with results showing that complications occurred in 36.4% of cases and most patients had extensive fibrosis.* -
  • The surgery proved feasible with similar kidney function post-operation compared to pre-op levels, but it carries a significant risk of complications and should only be performed in specialized centers.*

Purpose: Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) is a difficult procedure with risk of significant perioperative complications. The objective was to evaluate the impact of preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance with 3D model reconstructions on perioperative outcomes of RAPN.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of all patients who underwent RAPN for kidney tumor by three high-volume expert surgeons from academic centers.
