Self-perceived preparedness for practice among graduating physical medicine & rehabilitation residents.

Background: There is little research regarding the self-perceived preparedness of residents to enter independent practice after training. Given the vast breadth of physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R) and the increasingly complex and wide-ranging responsibilities and roles of physiatrists, this study is necessary to evaluate residents' perspectives of how programs are preparing them in the face of the changing practice environment.

Objective: To identify how graduating PM&R residents perceived their training to prepare them for future practice.

Virtually Possible: Medical Student Rehabilitation Rotations During a Pandemic.

The novel coronavirus 2019 pandemic has led to new dilemmas in medical education because of an initial shortage of personal protective equipment, uncertainty regarding disease transmission and treatments, travel restrictions, and social distancing guidelines. These new problems further compound the already existing problem of limited medical student exposure to the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation, particularly for students in medical schools lacking a department of physical medicine and rehabilitation, approximately 50% of medical schools. A virtual medical student physical medicine and rehabilitation rotation was created to mitigate coronavirus 2019-related limitations and impact on medical education.

Health literacy and patient activation among adults with chronic diseases in Singapore: A cross-sectional study.

Aims: Increased patient activation levels can improve health outcomes. Hence, this study aims to examine the relationships between sociodemographic variables and domain-specific health literacies with patient activation.

The Down Side of Prone Positioning: The Case of a Coronavirus 2019 Survivor.

The coronavirus 2019 pandemic has resulted in a surge of patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. Prone positioning may be used in such patients to optimize oxygenation. Severe infections may leave survivors with significant functional impairment necessitating rehabilitation.

The impact of the global budget system on dynamics of dental manpower and utilization of dental services.

Background: This study aimed to investigate dentists' supply and practice patterns following the implementation of the global budget system in Taiwan.

Materials And Methods: Data of reimbursement claims, municipal socioeconomic status and dental manpower were collected from the National Health Insurance administration, the Ministry of Internal Affair, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, respectively. A multivariate linear regression method was used for data analysis.

Impact of physical activity on hospitalization in older adults: a nationwide cohort from Taiwan.

The aim of the present study was to explore the effect of baseline physical activity on hospitalization over one year in a representative sample of older adults in Taiwan. We conducted a prospective study of persons aged 65 and above (N = 2064) participating in the National Health Interview Survey in Taiwan, 2001. A total of 1521 participants had complete data on physical activity and were successfully linked to 2002 National Health Insurance claims data.
