Trends in outpatient dermatology appointment wait times for United States (US) veterans are poorly characterized. Given concerns surrounding prolonged wait times at Veterans Health Administration (VHA) medical facilities, the federal government introduced the Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Outside Networks (MISSION) Act in 2018, allowing veterans to receive VHA-reimbursed community care if VHA specialty care appointments cannot be scheduled within 28 days. Considering this expanded access to community care, we characterized among US veterans the (1) overall demand for dermatology appointments, (2) trends in average wait times, and (3) facility/geographic variation in wait times.

Examining research productivity in medical school and dermatology residency: a cross-sectional study.

Our objective was to examine individuals' research productivity in dermatology residency compared to medical school. This study assessed relationship between hair loss and professional success by characterizing severity of hair loss among current white male chief executive officers (CEOs) in the United States. This observational study of androgenic alopecia among business executives was conducted by grading anterior and lateral view photographs of CEOs aged 50-69 years. Blinded, independent two-reviewer assessments of androgenic alopecia were performed based on the Hamilton-Norwood Hair Loss Scale.

Acne and social media: A cross-sectional study of content quality on TikTok.

Our objective was to assess the quality of acne-related medical information present on TikTok, the world's fastest growing social media platform. We queried the TikTok mobile application for videos tagged with "#acne" on May 1, 2020, and assessed the top 100 videos meeting inclusion criteria for content quality using DISCERN, a validated and reliable instrument for evaluating consumer health information. The mean content quality rating of videos was 2.

Limited sun safety education in high school curricula: a pilot study and call to action.

Although tanning is widespread, the use of both indoor and outdoor tanning most often begins in adolescence and young adulthood and is more prevalent in adolescents and young adults (AYA) than any other age group. Despite this, information regarding sun safety education in high school curricula is limited. In this pilot study, we sought to characterize the presence of education regarding sun safety in the curricula of US public high schools.
