The Use of Evidence-Based, Problem-Oriented Templates as a Clinical Decision Support in an Inpatient Electronic Health Record System.

Background: The integration of clinical decision support (CDS) in documentation practices remains limited due to obstacles in provider workflows and design restrictions in electronic health records (EHRs). The use of electronic problem-oriented templates (POTs) as a CDS has been previously discussed but not widely studied.

Objective: We evaluated the voluntary use of evidence-based POTs as a CDS on documentation practices.

Adjuvant Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Inhibitors in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.

Nonrandomized studies have suggested a potential benefit with use of an EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor in the adjuvant setting in patients with EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer. These nonrandomized studies cannot substitute for well-conducted, adequately powered, prospectively randomized phase III trials. Such trials are under way, and their results are eagerly anticipated.

Systemic Capillary Leak Syndrome as an Initial Presentation of ALK-Negative Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma.

Systemic capillary leak syndrome (SCLS) is a rare disease characterized by third spacing of plasma into the extravascular compartment, leading to anasarca, hemoconcentration, and hypovolemic shock. It has been rarely associated with lymphomas, and reports usually indicate that it occurs after antineoplastic treatment. We present the case of a patient with ALK-negative anaplastic large cell lymphoma who presented with SCLS as the initial manifestation of her lymphoma.
