Objective: Since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, several centers of pediatric endocrinology worldwide have observed a significant increase in the number of girls presenting with precocious or early puberty. We aimed to compare the incidence rates of female precocious puberty before and during the different phases of COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: We have retrospectively analyzed all the consultations recorded in the outpatient clinic database of the Endocrinology Unit of Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital, Rome, Italy, from the lockdown start in March 2020 up to September 2020, in comparison with the consultations recorded in the same months of 2019, 2021 and 2022.
Background: Disordered thyroid hormone transport, due to mutations in the SLC16A2 gene encoding monocarboxylate transporter 8 (MCT8), is characterised by intellectual and motor disability resulting from cerebral hypothyroidism and chronic peripheral thyrotoxicosis. We sought to systematically assess the phenotypic characteristics and natural history of patients with MCT8 deficiency.
Methods: We did an international, multicentre, cohort study, analysing retrospective data from Jan 1, 2003, to Dec 31, 2019, from patients with MCT8 deficiency followed up in 47 hospitals in 22 countries globally.
Background: Deficiency of the thyroid hormone transporter monocarboxylate transporter 8 (MCT8) causes severe intellectual and motor disability and high serum tri-iodothyronine (T) concentrations (Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome). This chronic thyrotoxicosis leads to progressive deterioration in bodyweight, tachycardia, and muscle wasting, predisposing affected individuals to substantial morbidity and mortality. Treatment that safely alleviates peripheral thyrotoxicosis and reverses cerebral hypothyroidism is not yet available.

Our aim was to investigate: (a) associations between NASH and BMD values and (b) associations between PNPLA3 I148M genotypes and BMD, in children with histologically proven non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Methods: BMD area (g/cm ) was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).
Objective: To assess whether adding liothyronine (LT3) to levothyroxine (LT4) monotherapy normalizes serum thyrotropin (TSH) and thyroxine (T4) concentrations in children with congenital hypothyroidism and central resistance to thyroid hormone.
Study Design: We retrospectively studied 12 patients with congenital hypothyroidism and central resistance to thyroid hormone (6 treated with LT3+LT4 combined therapy and 6 treated with LT4 monotherapy). In patients receiving combined therapy, we compared serum concentrations of TSH, T4, and triiodothyronine before and after addition of LT3.
Background: The spread of carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) is an emerging clinical problem, of great relevance in Europe and worldwide. The aim of this study was the molecular epidemiology of CRE isolates in Valle d'Aosta region, Italy, and the mechanism of carbapenem resistance.
Results: Sixty consecutive CRE samples were isolated from 52 hospital inpatients and/or outpatients from November 2013 to August 2014.
