Obstructive Tracheal Necrosis in a Dog Secondary to Smoke Inhalation Injury-Case Report.

A 4-year-old Siberian Husky mix was referred to the emergency service of the University of California Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital after being found unconscious in a housefire. Objective: To describe a serious adverse event of gastrointestinal obstruction requiring surgery following routine administration of multiple doses of activated charcoal (AC) granules, which were prescribed for carprofen toxicosis.

Case Summary: A 2-year-old female neutered Airedale Terrier presented for ingestion of 207 mg/kg of carprofen. Decontamination was initiated with apomorphine to induce emesis.

The implementation of omics technologies in cancer microbiome research.

Whilst the interplay between host genetics and the environment plays a pivotal role in the aetiopathogenesis of cancer, there are other key contributors of importance as well. One such factor of central and growing interest is the contribution of the microbiota to cancer. Even though the field is only a few years old, investigation of the 'cancer microbiome' has already led to major advances in knowledge of the basic biology of cancer risk and progression, opened novel avenues for biomarkers and diagnostics, and given a better understanding of mechanisms underlying response to therapy.

Long-distance communication has been frequently identified as essential to military couples trying to maintain their relationship during a deployment. Little quantitative research, however, has assessed the types of topics discussed during such communication and how those topics relate to overall relationship satisfaction. The current study draws on a sample of 56 Army couples who provided data through online surveys while the service member was actively deployed.

10-Year Institutional Retrospective Case Series of Decompressive Craniectomy for Malignant Middle Cerebral Artery Infarction (mMCAI).

Background: A 10-year (2005-2015) retrospective case series of patients undergoing decompressive craniectomy for malignant middle cerebral artery infarction (mMCAI) was undertaken.

Methods: Patient demographics, comorbidities, pre- and postoperative neurologic state, operative timescales, craniectomy dimensions, and Glasgow Outcome Scale scores were analyzed.

Results: Overall 40 patients underwent a decompressive craniectomy for mMCAI with a 30-day mortality of 17.

This study examined the effectiveness of an evidence-based, community-delivered adaptation of couple relationship education (CRE; specifically, PREP, The Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program) delivered at two Army installations. The study is a randomized controlled trial with two years of follow-up, examining marital quality and stability. Sample composition was 662 married couples with a spouse in the U.
