Background: We previously reported significant correlations between a direct measure of insulin sensitivity (IS) and blood levels of proteins measured using the Proximity Extension Assay (PEA) in two European cohorts. However, protein correlations with IS within non-European populations, in response to short-term interventions that improve IS, and any causal associations with IS have not yet been established.
Methods: We measured 1,470 proteins using the PEA in the plasma of 1,015 research participants at Stanford University who underwent one or more direct measures of IS.
Aims: Physical activity is associated with decreased incidence of the chronic diseases associated with aging. We previously demonstrated that digital interventions delivered through a smartphone app can increase short-term physical activity.
Methods And Results: We offered enrolment to community-living iPhone-using adults aged ≥18 years in the USA, UK, and Hong Kong who downloaded the MyHeart Counts app.

Objective: White matter alterations are frequently reported in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), yet the etiology is currently unknown. The objective of this investigation was to examine, for the first time, the impact of genetic and environmental factors on white matter microstructure in twins with ASD compared to control twins without ASD.
Method: Diffusion-weighted MRIs were obtained from same-sex twin pairs (6-15 years of age) in which at least 1 twin was diagnosed with ASD or neither twin exhibited a history of neurological or psychiatric disorders.
Aims/hypothesis: The euglycaemic-hyperinsulinaemic clamp (EIC) is the reference standard for the measurement of whole-body insulin sensitivity but is laborious and expensive to perform. We aimed to assess the incremental value of high-throughput plasma proteomic profiling in developing signatures correlating with the M value derived from the EIC.
Methods: We measured 828 proteins in the fasting plasma of 966 participants from the Relationship between Insulin Sensitivity and Cardiovascular disease (RISC) study and 745 participants from the Uppsala Longitudinal Study of Adult Men (ULSAM) using a high-throughput proximity extension assay.
Objectives: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is a signature injury of military conflicts and is prevalent in veterans with major depressive disorder (MDD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although therapeutic transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can reduce symptoms of depression and PTSD, whether traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects TMS responsiveness is not yet known. Background Variants in the cardiomyocyte-specific RNA splicing factor RBM20 have been linked to familial cardiomyopathy, but the causative genetic architecture and clinical consequences of this disease are incompletely defined. Methods and Results To define the genetic architecture of RBM20 cardiomyopathy, we first established a database of RBM20 variants associated with cardiomyopathy and compared these to variants observed in the general population with respect to their location in the RBM20 coding transcript.
