Scleroderma renal crisis, an increasingly rare but persistently challenging condition: a retrospective cohort study.

Objective: Scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) is associated with high morbidity and mortality and there remain unmet needs regarding early identification and treatment. We aimed to assess risk factors for and the outcomes of SRC at a large Australian tertiary hospital.

Methods: Seventeen incident SRC cases were diagnosed between 2012 and 2022.

Contribution of Left Ventricular Diastolic Dysfunction to Survival and Breathlessness in Systemic Sclerosis-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease.

Objective: To explore the effect of left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) in systemic sclerosis (SSc)-associated interstitial lung disease (ILD), and to investigate SSc-specific associations and clinical correlates of LVDD.

Methods: There were 102 Australian Scleroderma Cohort Study participants with definite SSc and radiographic ILD included. Diastolic function was classified as normal, indeterminate, or abnormal according to 2016 American Society of Echocardiography/European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging guidelines for assessment of LV diastolic function.

Public response to an anthrax attack: a multiethnic perspective.

The 2001 anthrax attacks emphasized the need to develop outreach that would more effectively support racial/ethnic minority populations during a bioterrorism incident. Given the importance of antibiotic prophylaxis in a future anthrax attack, it should be a priority to better support racial/ethnic minorities in mass dispensing programs. To examine the needs and perspectives of racial/ethnic minorities, this study used a nationally representative poll of 1,852 adults, including 1,240 whites, 261 African Americans, and 282 Hispanics.

Public response to an anthrax attack: reactions to mass prophylaxis in a scenario involving inhalation anthrax from an unidentified source.

An attack with Bacillus anthracis ("anthrax") is a known threat to the United States. When weaponized, it can cause inhalation anthrax, the deadliest form of the disease. Due to the rapid course of inhalation anthrax, delays in initiation of antibiotics may decrease survival chances.
