Extracellular vesicles released by the primary pathogen of periodontal disease (), referred to as outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), have been associated with the pathogenesis of systemic diseases like cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and Alzheimer's disease. A pathogenic role for by disrupting placental homeostasis was proposed in the association between periodontal disease and adverse pregnancy outcomes. On the basis that trophoblast-derived factors modulate endothelial and immune cell profiles in normal pregnancy and the scarce presence of in placenta, we hypothesized that OMVs from affect trophoblast cell phenotype, impairing trophoblast-endothelium and trophoblast-neutrophil interactions.

Periodontitis is proposed as a risk factor for preterm delivery, fetal growth restriction, and preeclampsia with severe consequences for maternal and neonatal health, but the biological mechanisms involved are elusive. Porphyromonas gingivalis gain access to the placental bed and impair trophoblast cell function, as assessed in murine and human pregnancy, suggesting a pathogenic role in adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes. Unlabelled: The oral cavity constitutes a unique ecosystem with highly variable ecological niches that harbor a great variety of microorganisms, including yeasts. Molecular methods are currently considered the gold standard for identifying species, although they involve limitations associated with the disruption of yeast cell walls to release the genomic DNA (gDNA) for amplification.

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the performance of different methods for extracting gDNA from Candida albicans and Candida dubliniensis, subsequently amplifying DNA by PCR.

Unlabelled: Aggressive periodontitis (AP) is the most serious entity of periodontal disease (stage III/IV, grade C periodontitis according to the latest classification, 2017).

Aim: to enhance knowledge of periodontal microbiota in AP in native Argentine patients and describe the effect of a combined pharmacologicalmechanical periodontal treatment on clinical and microbiological parameters.

Materials And Method: The study analyzed 42 periodontal sites in 11 patients diagnosed with AP.

Aim: To determine the presence of and and their association with extrinsic and intrinsic variables in 6-18-month-old infants.

Methods: This was an analytical, cross-sectional study of 65 6-18-month-old infants who visited the Centers for Early Childhood in Buenos Aires City. Three groups were established according to the presence of teeth-group I (GI)-edentulous infants, group II (GII)-infants with 1-8 teeth, and group III (GIII)-infants with 9-16 teeth.

The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of two methods for collecting saliva samples from infants under 2 years of age for cariogenic streptococci (CS) count. Two collection methods were applied in 11 infants. In Method (A), saliva samples were collected by swabbing the inner cheek mucosa and floor of the mouth in figure of eight motions with a sterile cotton swab until it was soaked.

Problem: A strong association between periodontitis and higher susceptibility to pregnancy complications like preeclampsia has been reported although the mechanisms remain elusive. Trophoblast cells modulate the recruitment and functional shaping of maternal leukocytes at early stages to sustain an antiinflammatory microenvironment and fetal growth. Neutrophil activation with reactive oxygen species (ROS) release is associated with preeclampsia.

Candida dubliniensis (Cd) and Candida albicans (Ca) are the most frequently isolated yeasts in HIV+ patients. Some of the enzymes produced by these yeasts are considered virulence factors since they contribute to pathogenicity of Candida spp. The aim of the present study was to compare production of enzymes such as phospholipase (Ph), proteinase (P), and hemolysin (H) by Cd and Ca strains isolated from periodontal HIV-positive patients receiving and not receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).

The aim of this study was to describe the microbiological profile of HIV patients under highly active antiretroviral treatment (HAART). This crosssectional study comprised 32 HIV patients with periodontal disease (PD) who had been under HAART for more than 6 months. Information about the patients' medical history was obtained from clinical records.

The aim of the present study was to validate and establish a cut off point and the predictive value of an adhesion test (AA-MSMG), as a microbiological method for evaluating cariogenic risk. The study is based on a variant (20% sucrose) of a selective medium descripted by Gold et al. (MSMG).

Yeasts colonize the subgingival biofilm, which becomes a reservoir that favors their reproduction. The purpose of the present work was to determine the prevalence of yeasts of the Candida genus in the subgingival biofilm of gingivoperiodontal disease patients, including users and non-users of dental devices, and their susceptibility to fluconazole and voriconazole. Samples of subgingival pockets of immunocompetent nonsmokers showing gingivitis and periodontitis were inoculated in a differential chromogenic medium.

A total of 230 isolates were collected from clinical specimens of patients attending five health centers of the Buenos Aires, Argentina. ABT-773 was compared to erythromycin, azithromycin and clindamycin against bacterial isolates responsible for community-acquired respiratory tract infections and viridans streptococci showing different resistance patterns. Time-kill curves were also performed against selected resistant isolates.
