Article Synopsis
  • Idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) is linked to alpha-synucleinopathies, and the study aimed to evaluate autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction in individuals with iRBD and its potential to predict clinical progression.
  • In a study of 25 iRBD patients, 28% developed synucleinopathy, primarily Parkinson's disease, with many exhibiting abnormal ANS test results; those who progressed had significantly higher rates of dysfunction compared to those who did not.
  • Results indicate that both symptomatic and subtle ANS dysfunctions are prevalent in iRBD, and specific adrenergic system issues may signal a higher short-term risk of developing synucleinopathy.

3D printing technologies enable medicine customization adapted to patients' needs. There are several 3D printing techniques available, but majority of dosage forms and medical devices are printed using nozzle-based extrusion, laser-writing systems, and powder binder jetting. 3D printing has been demonstrated for a broad range of applications in development and targeting solid, semi-solid, and locally applied or implanted medicines.

Background: Small vessel disease (SVD) is the underlying anatomical substrate for both lacunar infarction and subcortical hemorrhage.

Aim: To assess predictive factors of ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke in patients with cerebral SVD.

Materials And Methods: Prospective hospital-based stroke registry ("The Sagrat Cor Hospital of Barcelona Stroke Registry") in an acute-care teaching hospital in Barcelona, Spain.

Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune disorder caused by antibodies directed against the neuromuscular junction. Some patients may have an associated thymoma, which confers a worse prognosis. Eculizumab, a monoclonal antibody that inhibits the activation of terminal complement, has recently been approved for the treatment of refractory generalized myasthenia gravis.

Objective: To assess predictive clinical factors of cardioembolic infarction in very old patients (85 years of age and older).

Methods: Prospective hospital-based stroke registry ("The Sagrat Cor Hospital of Barcelona Stroke Registry") is an acute-care teaching hospital in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. From 956 first-ever cardioembolic stroke patients included in the stroke registry over a 24-year period, 639 were younger than 85 years of age and 317 were 85 years or older (mean age: 88.

Nitrogen-based chemicals represent one of the most important family of compounds in freshwater and marine ecosystems. The nitrogen cycle is responsible for spreading nitrogen compounds all over the environment in an equilibrium manner. Mankind's industrial activities have harshly contributed to the disruption of the nitrogen cycle and its consequences have severely affected Earth's ecosystems.

The ability of diinosine polyphosphates, diinosine triphosphate (Ip(3)I), diinosine tetraphosphate (Ip(4)I) and diinosine pentaphosphate (Ip(5)I) to modify intraocular pressure in normotensive New Zealand white rabbits was tested. Ip(5)I produced increase in intraocular pressure, while Ip(3)I and Ip(4)I produced a decrease. Ip(4)I was the most effective reducing intraocular pressure inducing a maximal decrease of intraocular pressure to 74.

Lymphomas are the second leading cause of malignancy in head and neck. Hodgkin's disease (HD) accounts for only 10-35% of all cases, where the lymph node is affected in 70-80%. We present the case of a patient with HD with extranodal involvement, given the rarity of this entity.
