Ischemic colitis (IC) is potentially lethal. Clinical and biology information and results of computed tomography (CT) scan and/or colonoscopy are used to assess its severity. However, decision-making about therapy remains a challenge.

Right-sided vs. left-sided obstructing colonic cancer: results of a multicenter study of the French Surgical Association in 2325 patients and literature review.

Purpose: Few studies compared management and outcomes of obstructing colonic cancer (OCC), according to the tumor site. Our aim was to compare patient and tumor characteristics, postoperative and pathological results, and oncological outcomes after emergency management of right-sided vs. left-sided OCC.

Development of three-dimensional prints of arthritic joints for supporting patients' awareness to structural damage.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) result in severe joint destruction and functional disability if left untreated. We aim to develop tools that help patients with RA and PsA to understand and experience the impact of inflammatory joint disease on the integrity of their (juxta-articular) bone and increase adherence to medical treatment. In this study, we used high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) to develop 3D prototypes of patients' finger joints.

Increased intestinal absorption by segmental reversal of the small bowel in adult patients with short-bowel syndrome: a case-control study.

Background: Segmental reversal of the small bowel (SRSB) is proposed in patients with short-bowel syndrome (SBS) as a rehabilitative therapy, but its effects on absorption have not been studied.

Objective: We aimed to determine intestinal macronutrient absorption and home parenteral nutrition (HPN) dependence in SBS patients with intestinal failure.

Design: We included in a retrospective study all consecutive patients who had an SRSB between 1985 and 2010 and underwent a study of macronutrient absorption.

Solitary fibrous tumor in the round ligament of the liver: a fortunate intraoperative discovery.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are mesenchymal neoplasms of fibroblastic origin, most commonly found in the pleura. Numerous extrathoracic locations have been reported during the last 2 decades. Herein, we report the first case of an SFT in the round ligament of the liver.

Impact of laparoscopy simulator training on the technical skills of future surgeons in the operating room: a prospective study.

Background: The efficacy of laparoscopy simulators remains controversial.

Methods: This was a comparative prospective study that evaluated the impact of simulator training on technical competence during a real surgical procedure. Residents were divided into 3 groups: the Mcgill Inanimate System for Training and Evaluation of Laparoscopic Skills (MISTELS) group, training on a simple simulator; LAP Mentor group, training on a virtual simulator; and control group.

Emergency stent graft implantation for ruptured visceral artery pseudoaneurysm.

Background: Literature series that include visceral artery pseudoaneurysms rarely separate them from true aneurysms, although they address different issues. Guidelines for optimal management of these lesions are lacking. We report our experience of stent graft treatment of these lesions with midterm results.

Prenatal and postnatal diagnosis of 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.

Microdeletion of chromosome 22q11.2, the most common human deletion syndrome encompasses a wide spectrum of abnormalities. Many clinical or ultrasonographic findings may support deletion studies, either in utero or in the post-natal period.
