: Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) presents challenges in treatment due to its varied course and unclear etiology. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combining proximal femoral varus osteotomy (PFVO) with a modified trochanteric flip osteotomy to address biomechanical consequences and improve hip abductor muscle strength. : We present a modified approach combining PFVO with a trochanteric flip osteotomy.

The study included 221 evacuee parents and 262 non-evacuee parents, recruited online through a professional survey company. We hypothesized that perceived child aggression and social problems would increase following the terrorist events, with evacuee parents reporting a greater increase in symptoms due to heightened instability and stress.

Background: Abnormal angular and torsional alignment of the lower extremities during growth are a common reason for consultation of a paediatrician or orthopaedist. There is often uncertainty about the pathological value of these abnormalities and the need for treatment, even among specialists. In the course of physiological growth and development processes, the axial and torsional alignment of the legs sometimes change considerably and in characteristic patterns.

This spares typical complications of external fixators but requires precise preoperative planning and exact intraoperative execution. To date, its results are insufficiently reported.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: As an alternative to external fixators, intramedullary lengthening nails (ILNs) can be employed for distraction osteogenesis. While previous studies have demonstrated that typical complications of external devices, such as soft-tissue tethering, and pin site infection can be avoided with ILNs, there is a lack of studies that exclusively investigated tibial distraction osteogenesis with motorized ILNs inserted via an antegrade approach.
Methods: A total of 58 patients (median age 17 years (interquartile range (IQR) 15 to 21)) treated by unilateral tibial distraction osteogenesis for a median leg length discrepancy of 41 mm (IQR 34 to 53), and nine patients with disproportionate short stature treated by bilateral simultaneous tibial distraction osteogenesis, with magnetically controlled motorized ILNs inserted via an antegrade approach, were retrospectively analyzed.
Background: Limited research has examined parental quality of life (QoL) for caregivers of children with special needs, mostly comparing parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to those with typical development. This study examines QoL and related variables during the COVID-19 pandemic among two comparable groups: parents of children with ASD and parents of children with other diagnoses (non-ASD).
Method: The sample included 175 Israeli parents (ASD = 101; non-ASD = 74).
This study examines the impact of post-migration living difficulties (PMLDs) and quality of life (QoL) on the mental health of 55 young refugees who arrived in Germany either accompanied or unaccompanied. The results reveal that nearly 62% of the participants exhibited clinically significant symptoms of depression or post-traumatic stress disorder. Regression analyses indicate that psychopathology was associated with being unaccompanied and experiencing lower QoL, while QoL was associated with higher economic status and lower PMLDs.

These are reliable treatments with few complications. Recently, radiographic analysis of treatment-related alterations of the central knee anatomy gained interest among pediatric orthopedic surgeons.

Temporary hemiepiphysiodesis (HED) is a well-established procedure for the correction of limb malalignment in skeletally immature patients. For treatment of LLD > 2 cm, lengthening with intramedullary devices gains increasing popularity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTemporary hemiepiphysiodesis (HED) is applied to children and adolescents to correct angular deformities (ADs) in long bones through guided growth. Traditional Blount staples or two-hole plates are mainly used for this indication. Despite precise surgical techniques and attentive postoperative follow-up, implant-associated complications are frequently described.

Participants were 437 parents of minor children. Parents reported more behavioral and emotional difficulties alongside with more quality time with their children.

In this first single-centre matched-pair analysis we focus on the comparison of treatment with the PRECICE and STRYDE intramedullary lengthening devices and aim to clarify any clinical and radiological differences.
Methods: A single-centre 2:1 matched-pair retrospective analysis of 42 patients treated with the STRYDE and 82 patients treated with the PRECICE nail between May 2013 and November 2020 was conducted.
Caldicellulosiruptor is a genus of thermophilic to hyper-thermophilic microorganisms that express and secrete an arsenal of enzymes degrading lignocellulosic biomasses into fermentable sugars. Because of this distinguished feature, strains of Caldicellulosiruptor have been considered as promising candidates for consolidated bioprocessing. Although a few Caldicellulosiruptor strains with industrially relevant characteristics have been isolated to date, it is apparent that further improvement of the strains is essential for industrial application.

The present study evaluates the preliminary results of two novel devices for tED and pED around the knee to reduce the predicted final height.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcome after bilateral epiphysiodesis for the treatment of tall stature.
Background: Patient-reported outcome measures are gaining increasing importance in clinical research and quality control. Clinical impairment through limb deformities can appear in various forms. This study aimed at translating and culturally adaptating the Limb Deformity-Scoliosis Research Society (LD-SRS) patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) into German by following the scientific rigor of the cross-cultural adaptation process as well as ensuring the reliability of the translated version.

Extendable tumor endoprostheses are often oversized, while custom-made endoprostheses do not provide the intraoperatively required variability regarding reconstruction length. Allo- and autograft replacements, on the other hand, show high complication and revision rates.

Background: Consolidated bioprocessing (CBP) of lignocellulosic biomass to L-lactic acid using thermophilic cellulolytic/hemicellulolytic bacteria provides a promising solution for efficient lignocellulose conversion without the need for additional cellulolytic/hemicellulolytic enzymes. Most studies on the mesophilic and thermophilic CBP of lignocellulose to lactic acid concentrate on cultivation of non-cellulolytic mesophilic and thermophilic bacteria at temperatures of 30-55 °C with external addition of cellulases/hemicellulases for saccharification of substrates.
Results: L-Lactic acid was generated by fermenting microcrystalline cellulose or lignocellulosic substrates with a novel thermophilic anaerobic bacterium Caldicellulosiruptor sp.
Background: Many patients with achondroplasia experience functional impairments because of rhizomelic upper extremities (proximal limb shortening). Bilateral humeral lengthening may overcome these functional limitations, but it is associated with several risks, such as radial nerve palsy and insufficient bone regeneration. Only a few studies have reported on patient satisfaction and functional outcome after humeral lengthening in patients with achondroplasia.

Druze widows had the lowest social support, but no differences were found between groups regarding family resilience or family coherence. Social support was positively associated with education and living in a city, beyond group.
