Recent advances in machine perfusion have revolutionised the field of transplantation by prolonging preservation, permitting evaluation of viability prior to implant and rescue of discarded organs. Long-term perfusion for days-to-weeks provides time to modify these organs prior to transplantation. By using long-term normothermic machine perfusion to facilitate liver splitting and subsequent perfusion of both partial organs, possibilities even outside the clinical arena become possible.

This study assessed the ability of the hemoglobin-to-red cell distribution width ratio (HRR), hemoglobin-to-monocyte ratio (HMR), and hemoglobin-to-leukocyte ratio (HLR) to predict readmission within 14 days after TKA.
Methods: Data from the Chang Gung Medical Research Database (CGRD) from 2014 to 2022 were retrospectively analyzed.
Nitroaromatic compounds are found in brown carbon aerosols emitted to the Earth's atmosphere by biomass burning, and are important organic chromophores for the absorption of solar radiation. Here, transient absorption spectroscopy spanning 100 fs-8 μs is used to explore the pH-dependent photochemical pathways for aqueous solutions of -nitrophenol, chosen as a representative nitroaromatic compound. Broadband ultrafast UV-visible and infrared probes are used to characterize the excited states and intermediate species involved in the multistep photochemistry, and to determine their lifetimes under different pH conditions.

To re-examine the exonization frequency of TEs into protein-coding gene transcripts, we re-analyzed a Drosophila neuron circadian rhythm RNAseq dataset and a deep long RNA fly midbrain RNAseq dataset using our Transposon Insertion and Depletion Analyzer (TIDAL) program. Our TIDAL results were able to predict several TE insertions from RNAseq data that were consistent with previous published studies.

Here, we demonstrate that Traffic jam (Tj), an orthologue of a large Maf transcription factor in mammals, is a master regulator of the piRNA pathway in ovarian somatic cells, playing a crucial role in maintaining TE silencing and genomic integrity in somatic tissues.
