Evaluation of a daily facial massage on perceived sleep quality and well-being: A pilot study.

Objective: Sleep disorders are widespread and constitute a major public health risk. The present study thus aims to investigate the effect of a facial cosmetic self-massage daily routine on women's sleep and well-being.

Methods: The present pilot study was conducted on 62 middle-aged women declaring daily tiredness and sleep troubles.

Skin microbiome attributes associate with biophysical skin ageing.

Two major arms of skin ageing are changes in the skin's biophysical conditions and alterations in the skin microbiome. This work partitioned both arms to study their interaction in detail. Leveraging the resolution provided by shotgun metagenomics, we explored how skin microbial species, strains and gene content interact with the biophysical traits of the skin during ageing.

Reducing Phlebotomy, Length of Stay, Cost: Development of a Blunt Abdominal Trauma Pathway in a Level I, Pediatric Trauma Center.

Objectives: Blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) is a leading cause of morbidity in children with higher hemodynamic stabilities when compared with adults. Pediatric patients with BAT can often be managed without surgical interventions; however, laboratory testing is often recommended. Yet, laboratory testing can be costly, and current literature has not identified appropriate pathways or specific tests necessary to detect intra-abdominal injury after BAT.

Pediatric Train Injuries: A 10-Year Review From the Pennsylvania Trauma Outcomes Study Database.

Objectives: Trains can cause severe injuries in pediatric patients requiring significant resource utilization. We sought to review train injuries in Pennsylvania to determine the burden of these injuries on the pediatric trauma system.

Methods: We queried the Pennsylvania Trauma Outcomes Study Database to identify patients younger than 18 years injured by trains between 2007 and 2016.

Cosmetics increase skin evenness: Evidence from perceptual and physical measures.

Background: Cosmetics are commonly attributed with increasing skin evenness, yet little published data characterizes the effect, either perceptually or physically. We therefore investigated whether makeup increases skin evenness using a perceptual measurement and two physical measurements of color and luminance homogeneity.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-two French women (aged 29-45 years) were photographed without cosmetics, with self-applied cosmetics, and with professionally-applied cosmetics.

Thoracoscopic intercostal to phrenic nerve transfer for diaphragmatic reanimation in a child with tetraplegia.

To describe for the first time a novel technique of thoracoscopic intercostal nerve mobilization and intercostal to phrenic nerve transfer in the setting of tetraplegia with the goal of reanimating the diaphragm and decreasing ventilator dependence. A 5-year-old female on 24 h ventilator support secondary to traumatic tetraplegia was evaluated for possible phrenic nerve pacing. Left-sided phrenic nerve stimulation did not result in diaphragmatic contraction indicating a lower motor neuron injury.

Loss of functionality during aging of cells and organisms is caused and accompanied by altered cell-to-cell communication and signalling. One factor thereby is the chronic accumulation of senescent cells and the concomitant senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) that contributes to microenvironment remodelling and a pro-inflammatory status. While protein based SASP factors have been well characterized, little is known about small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) and their miRNA cargo.

Validation of digital photographic reference scales for evaluating facial aging signs.

Background: Validated tools are essential to evaluate facial skin aging for both dermatological and cosmetic investigations. While many visual aging scales have been developed, few have been validated and none in terms of degree of distinguishability (DD). We developed and validated a series of visual scales using a novel digital interface for scoring facial skin aging in Caucasian women.

Improving the Transition From Oncology to Primary Care Teams: A Case for Shared Leadership.

This article discusses the case of a 47-year-old woman who underwent primary therapy with curative intent for breast cancer. The case illustrates a number of failure events in transferring information and responsibility from oncology to primary care teams. The article emphasizes the importance of shared leadership, as multiple team members, dispersed in time and space, pursue their own objectives while achieving the common goal of coordinating care for survivors of cancer transitioning across settings.

A genome-wide association study in Caucasian women suggests the involvement of HLA genes in the severity of facial solar lentigines.

Solar lentigines are a common feature of sun-induced skin ageing. Little is known, however, about the genetic factors contributing to their development. In this genome-wide association study, we aimed to identify genetic loci associated with solar lentigines on the face in 502 middle-aged French women.

Enteric disease episodes and the risk of acquiring a future sexually transmitted infection: a prediction model in Montreal residents.

Objective: The sexual transmission of enteric diseases poses an important public health challenge. We aimed to build a prediction model capable of identifying individuals with a reported enteric disease who could be at risk of acquiring future sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Materials And Methods: Passive surveillance data on Montreal residents with at least 1 enteric disease report was used to construct the prediction model.

An exploratory analysis of individuals with multiple episodes of different reportable diseases, Montreal, 1990-2012.

Objectives: Studies of public health reporting have only examined multiple episodes of the same communicable disease within an individual. We aimed to characterize Montreal residents with multiple reportable disease episodes from 1990 to 2012, while accounting for all types of reportable diseases.

Study Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Bevacizumab with or without erlotinib as maintenance therapy in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (GERCOR DREAM; OPTIMOX3): a randomised, open-label, phase 3 trial.

Background: The combination of an anti-VEGF or an anti-EGFR-targeted monoclonal antibody with chemotherapy has shown clinical activity in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. However, combining both anti-VEGF and anti-EGFR antibodies with chemotherapy in first-line treatment resulted in adverse outcomes. We assessed whether the combination of erlotinib, an EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor, with bevacizumab could increase the efficacy of maintenance therapy in patients with unresectable metastatic colorectal cancer.

We identified an MSH6 mutation (c.10C>T, p.Gln4*) causing Lynch syndrome (LS) in 11 French Canadian (FC) families from the Canadian province of Quebec.

Determinants of vitamin D status in Caucasian adults: influence of sun exposure, dietary intake, sociodemographic, lifestyle, anthropometric, and genetic factors.

Very few studies have investigated the determinants of serum vitamin D levels using a set of variables that include simultaneously sun exposure, phototype, dietary intake, sociodemographics, anthropometric, lifestyle data, and genetic polymorphisms. Our objective was to investigate the associations between all these parameters and vitamin D status in a large sample of French adults. This cross-sectional survey was based on 1,828 middle-aged Caucasian adults from the SU.

Influence of skin ageing features on Chinese women's perception of facial age and attractiveness.

Objectives: Ageing leads to characteristic changes in the appearance of facial skin. Among these changes, we can distinguish the skin topographic cues (skin sagging and wrinkles), the dark spots and the dark circles around the eyes. Although skin changes are similar in Caucasian and Chinese faces, the age of occurrence and the severity of age-related features differ between the two populations.

Adherence to adjuvant endocrine therapy in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer patients with regular follow-up.

Background: Adjuvant hormonal therapy is crucial in the treatment of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. The nonadherence rate to hormonal treatment is reported to be as high as 60%. The goal of this study was to evaluate the factors evoked by the patients as well as the demographic and disease-related factors that could be associated with nonadherence to adjuvant hormonal therapy.

Association between dietary intake of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and severity of skin photoaging in a middle-aged Caucasian population.

Background: Intake of long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFAs) supplementation has been reported to be associated with reduced UVB-erythemal sensitivity, but their relationship to photoaging has not been studied to date.

Objective: To investigate associations between daily n-3 PUFA intake and the severity of skin photoaging.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 2919 subjects aged 45-60 years from the SU.

Integrated oncogeriatric approach: a systematic review of the literature using concept analysis.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to provide a more precise definition of an integrated oncogeriatric approach (IOGA) through concept analysis.

Data Sources: The literature was reviewed from January 2005 to April 2011 integrating three broad terms: geriatric oncology, multidisciplinarity and integrated care delivery models.
