Here, we present a full quantum chemical description (at the density functional level of theory) of the non-resonant chemical effects on the Raman spectrum of an adenine molecule mapped by a tip, modeled as a single silver atom or a small silver cluster. We show pronounced changes in the Raman pattern and its intensities depending on the conformation of the nanoparticle-substrate system, concluding that the spatial resolution of the chemical contribution of TERS can be in the sub-nm range.

This multicenter, double blind, randomized, controlled trial was designed to assess the safety and the efficacy of anal wound cleansing with Triclosan (Proctocid®) in the control of symptoms and healing time after MM.
Methods: A total of 113 patients with grades III and IV hemorrhoids, undergoing open hemorroidectomy by diathermy or Ligasure vessel sealing device, were randomly assigned to Triclosan or sodium hypochlorite solution.
A new approach for the calculation of resonance Raman spectra is presented. The new method is based on dynamic polarizabilities from real-time time-dependent density functional theory, and its estimations are compared to two established techniques for the prediction of resonance Raman spectra. These established methods either use dynamic polarizabilities from linear-response time-dependent density functional theory or employ excited-state gradients.

Methods: A total of 100 children, 3-11 years old, scheduled for surgical procedures in the supine position under general anaesthesia were studied. After clinically satisfactory LMA placement, tidal volumes were increased stepwise until air entered the stomach, airway pressure exceeded 30 cmH(2)O, or air leakage from the mask seal prevented further increases in tidal volume.
Basic life support and rapid defibrillation for ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia are the only two interventions that have been shown unequivocally to improve survival after cardiac arrest. Several drugs are advocated to treat cardiac arrest, but despite very encouraging animal data, no drug has been reliably proven to increase survival to hospital discharge after cardiac arrest. This review focuses on recent experimental and clinical data concerning the use of vasopressin, amiodarone, magnesium, and fibrinolytics during advanced life support (ALS).
