Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder, affecting nearly 10 million people worldwide. Ferroptosis, a recently identified form of regulated cell death characterized by 15-lipoxygenase-mediated hydroperoxidation of membrane lipids, has been implicated in neurodegenerative disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson's disease. Pharmacological inhibition of 15 -lipoxygenase to prevent iron- and lipid peroxidation-associated ferroptotic cell death is a rational strategy for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.

Context: Data dashboards have emerged as critical tools for surveillance and informing resource allocation. Despite their utility and popularity during COVID-19, there is a growing need to understand what tools and training are tailored to nonprofit community-based organizations that may partner with public health officials.

Program: In June 2021, the Rhode Island Department of Health and Brown University partnered to create Project SIGNAL (Spatiotemporal Insights to Guide Nuanced Actions Locally), which utilizes spatiotemporal analytics to identify Rhode Island's largest disparities in COVID-19-related outcomes (eg, testing, diagnosis, vaccinations) at the neighborhood level.

Since 1997 Tanzania has undertaken a process to identify and declare a network of Nature Forest Reserves (NFRs) with high biodiversity values, from within its existing portfolio of national Forest Reserves, with 16 new NFRs declared since 2015. The current network of 22 gazetted NFRs covered 948,871 hectares in 2023. NFRs now cover a range of Tanzanian habitat types, including all main forest types-wet, seasonal, and dry-as well as wetlands and grasslands.

The importance of radical S-adenosyl-l-methionine (RS) enzymes in the maturation of ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) continues to expand, specifically for the RS-SPASM subfamily. We recently discovered an RS-SPASM enzyme that installs a carbon-carbon bond between the geminal methyls of valine residues, resulting in the formation of cyclopropylglycine (CPG). Accurate estimation of crop yield predictions is of great importance for food security under the impact of climate change. We propose a data-driven crop model that combines the knowledge advantage of process-based modeling and the computational advantage of data-driven modeling. The proposed model tracks the daily biomass accumulation process during the maize growing season and uses daily produced biomass to estimate the final grain yield.

The generation of low emittance electron beams from laser-driven wakefields is crucial for the development of compact x-ray sources. Here, we show new results for the injection and acceleration of quasimonoenergetic electron beams in low amplitude wakefields experimentally and using simulations. This is achieved by using two laser pulses decoupling the wakefield generation from the electron trapping via ionization injection.

Radical S-adenosylmethionine (rSAM) enzymes are a large and diverse superfamily of enzymes, some of which are known to participate in the biosynthesis of ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs). Specifically, a subfamily of rSAM proteins with an elongated C-terminus known as a SPASM domain have become a fixation in the discovery of new RiPP natural products. A community-driven review in 2013 described the emerging commonalities in the biosynthesis of RiPPs and the opportunities they offered for bioengineering and genome mining. Introduction: The British Thoracic Society (BTS) responded to a call from the pleural community to establish this new Training Standard to detail the capabilities in practice for thoracic ultrasound (TUS), which will build on the previous curricula and extend the remit to include training for the emergency provision of TUS.

Methods: BTS convened a working group to produce a set of Training Standards.

Results: This document provides a comprehensive Training Standard for TUS facilitating timely and improved management of patients with respiratory presentations, particularly (but not exclusively) pleural pathologies.

ALD403 is a genetically engineered, humanized immunoglobulin G1 monoclonal antibody that inhibits the action of human calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). Clinical trial data indicate that ALD403 is effective as a preventive therapy for migraine and has an acceptable safety profile.
