Wildfires have increased in frequency and area burned, trends expected to continue with climate change. Among other effects, fires release pollutants into the atmosphere, representing a risk to human health and downwind terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. While human health risks are well studied, the ecological impacts to downwind ecosystems are not, and this gap may present a constraint on developing an adequate assessment of the ecological risks associated with downwind wildfire exposure.

Patients undergoing allogeneic (allo) and autologous (auto) hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) require extensive hospitalizations or daily clinic visits for the duration of their transplantation. Home HCT, wherein patients live at home and providers make daily trips to the patient's residence to perform assessments and deliver any necessary interventions, may enhance patient quality of life and improve outcomes. Cangrelor is a relatively new antiplatelet drug that has been approved for use as an adjunct therapy to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to decrease peri-procedural myocardial infarction (MI), coronary revascularization, and stent thrombosis. Cangrelor is an adenosine triphosphate analogue with a pharmacokinetic mechanism based on a reversible, dose-dependent inhibition adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet aggregation. High resolution and isolated scanning probe microscopy (SPM) is in demand for continued development of energy storage and conversion systems involving chemical reactions at the nanoscale as well as an improved understanding of biological systems. Objective: Approval rates for first-time applications for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) among adults who are homeless can be as low as 10%. This study examined approval rates among applicants who were assisted by SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR), a federal initiative to increase access to disability benefits among people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who have mental illness or other co-occurring disorders.

To that end, good antimalarial chemotherapies have been difficult to find in the global market and those that seem to be most effective are rapidly becoming ineffective due to the emergence and spread of drug resistance. In this paper, we relate experimental electron beam induced etching profiles to various electron limited and mass transport limited regimes via a continuum model. In particular, we develop a series of models with increasing complexity and demonstrate the effects and interactions that the precursor gas adsorption kinetics, the electron flux distribution, and the etch product desorption kinetics have on the resultant nanoscale etching profile. Unlike analogous electron beam induced deposition models, it is shown that one must consider the diffusion, desorption, and possible re-dissociation of the resultant etch product to understand the observed etching profiles.

A major issue that has long dogged federal human services demonstration programs is the perception that when federal dollars end, the programs end-regardless of any proven successes. Access to Community Care and Effective Services and Supports (ACCESS) was a 5-year federal demonstration project to foster partnerships between service providers for homeless people with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse disorders; and to identify effective, replicable systems integration strategies. After federal funding ended, research teams visited the ACCESS sites to determine which project elements remained and which strategies were used by the sites to continue ACCESS.

Addition of fluoride to the growth medium of Streptococcus sobrinus resulted in a loss of glucan-binding lectin activity. Upon removal of fluoride, the bacteria regained their ability to bind glucan in about one generation. Chloramphenicol prevented recovery of ability to produce the lectin, showing the requirement for protein synthesis.

Several proteins from culture supernatants of Streptococcus sobrinus were able to bind avidly to Sephadex G-75. The proteins could be partially eluted from the Sephadex by low-molecular-weight alpha-1,6 glucan or fully eluted by 4 M guanidine hydrochloride. Elution profiles were complex, yielding proteins of 16, 45, 58 to 60, 90, 135, and 145 kDa, showing that the wild-type strain possessed multiple glucan-binding proteins.
