Objectives: Accurate prevalence estimates of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) are important for numerous purposes including orphan drug designation. A key criterion for orphan drug designation is a disease prevalence of less than 5/10,000 persons. The objective is to apply and compare different methods of prevalence assessment.

The inclusion of microalgae in livestock diets has been shown to enhance animal productivity, immune response, and meat quality. However, the role of chlorella (Chlorella vulgaris) in growing rabbit nutrition has been scarcely explored, with available studies focusing on low inclusion levels (<1%) and their effects on rabbit growth and immune response. This study evaluated the growth performance, nutrient digestibility, plasma metabolites, caecal fermentative activity, and caecal microbiota composition of growing rabbits fed diets with different inclusion levels of chlorella and crude fat.

Introduction: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) exhibits striking clinical and biological heterogeneity. Recent studies have identified new subgroups within germinal center B-cell like (GCB) DLBCL, associated with inferior prognosis, irrespective of MYC and BCL2 translocations. We explored the existence of such a DLBCL high-risk subgroup, based on multilevel aberrations, especially focusing on MYC and BCL2.

Learning occurs across multiple timescales, with fast learning crucial for adapting to sudden environmental changes, and slow learning beneficial for extracting robust knowledge from multiple events. Here we asked if miscalibrated fast vs slow learn-ing can lead to maladaptive decision-making in individuals with problem gambling. We recruited participants with problem gambling (PG; N=20; 9 female and 11 male) and a recreational gambling control group without any symptoms associated with problem gambling (N=20; 10 female and 10 male) from the community in Los Ange-les, CA.

In the Greenlandic Inuit population, 4% are homozygous carriers of a genetic nonsense TBC1D4 p.Arg684Ter variant leading to loss of the muscle-specific isoform of TBC1D4 and an approximately tenfold increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Here we show the metabolic consequences of this variant in four female and four male homozygous carriers and matched controls.

There is need for advancing minimally invasive diagnostic techniques for sex differentiation at early life-stage classes in sea turtles. The objectives of this study were to determine whether there are sex-specific effects on the metabolome of the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) and to identify potential biomarkers for sex classification at early life-stage classes (50 post-hatchling and 50 juvenile). Comprehensive analyses including plasma chemistry (n = 100) and untargeted (n = 48) metabolomic analyses were performed.

This Research Communication introduces a novel enzymatic-fluorometric analytical procedure for glycerol and glycerol 3-phosphate in milk. Milk from thirty-seven goats was analysed during 9 consecutive days during which a two-day feed restriction was introduced. Fractional milk triacylglyceride and free glycerol increased significantly while glycerol 3-phosphate reacted more moderately.

Aim: The features and outcomes of sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) may be affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD). Accordingly, we aimed to compare SA-AKI in patients with or without CKD.

Methods: Retrospective cohort study in 12 intensive care units (ICU).

Prymnesins, produced by the haptophyte Prymnesium parvum, are considered responsible for fish kills when this species blooms. Although their toxic mechanism is not fully understood, membrane disruptive properties have been ascribed to A-type prymnesins. Currently it is suggested that pore-formation is the underlying cause of cell disruption.

Article Synopsis
  • * In September 2023, researchers detected a significant seismic signal from East Greenland that corresponded to a rock-ice avalanche leading to a tsunami in Dickson Fjord.
  • * The study reveals that the tsunami transformed into a 7-meter-high long-duration seiche, demonstrating the interplay between glacial melting and geological hazards, emphasizing the dangerous effects of climate change on these environments.

Background: More than 50% of patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) experience persistent functional limitations. Despite guideline recommendations for a structured integrated care model for patients with PE, consensus on an optimal follow-up strategy is lacking, and evidence is insufficient.

Objectives: To describe the development of a structured model for PE follow-up using coproduction methods.

Children and young people's participation, as stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, applies to both matters that directly and indirectly affect children. Participation is in some countries recognized as a fundamental right and children's engagement seen as a valuable resource. Assisted by conceptual understanding of co-creation, children may be enabled to engage and participate in a variety of contexts.

Many public environmental decisions are wicked problems due to high complexity and uncertainty. We test a participatory value-based framework based on multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) to tackle such problems. Our framework addresses two important gaps identified in reviews of MCDA applications to environmental problems: including stakeholders and treating uncertainty.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses industrial biotechnology applications, focusing on the production of itaconic acid and bioactive metabolites from specific fungal species.
  • Draft genome sequences were presented for multiple species, revealing a rich diversity of secondary metabolism genes, particularly in one genus, which shows high potential for genome mining.
  • The study found unique strategies for UV protection among these species and highlighted their impressive ability to degrade plant polysaccharides, indicating further biotechnological uses.

Purpose: Etoposide to standard R-CHOP is used for high-risk diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in some countries. Due to the lack of randomized trials, a real-world data study using matching methods was used to test the potential effectiveness of R-CHOEP over R-CHOP.

Patients And Methods: This study included patients from the Danish Lymphoma Register diagnosed between 2006 and 2020 at the age of 18-60 years with de novo DLBCL and age-adjusted IPI ≥2.

In the context of high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) conditions resembling those in the oil and gas industry, the performance of epoxy-siloxane hybrid coatings is investigated. Neat amine-cured epoxy novolac (EN) coatings exhibit drawbacks under these conditions, including softening upon exposure to hydrocarbons, leading to underfilm corrosion triggered by CO gas and seawater ion diffusion. To address these issues, two hybrid coatings, long-chain epoxy-terminated polydimethylsiloxane-modified EN (EN-EPDMS) and short-chain 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane-modified EN (EN-GPTMS), are assessed in HPHT environments.

Cases of cryptosporidiosis in humans have been reported with strong indication of transmission from rodents. Here, we report seven new human cases of cryptosporidiosis involving rodent-adapted species ( [ = 1], [ = 4; previously known as chipmunk genotype I], [ = 1], and [n = 1]) and review cases of human infection caused by these four species published to date. The seven new cases were detected in Denmark within a period of twelve months from 2022 to 2023.

In May-June 2019, the microalga Chrysochromulina leadbeateri caused a massive fish-killing event in several fjords in Northern Norway, resulting in the largest direct impact ever on aquaculture in northern Europe due to toxic algae. Motivated by the fact that no algal toxins have previously been described from C. leadbeateri, we set out to investigate the chemical nature and toxicity of secondary metabolites in extracts of two strains (UIO 393, UIO 394) isolated from the 2019 bloom, as well as one older strain (UIO 035) isolated during a bloom in Northern Norway in 1991.

Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder, and monitoring remission is a widely used measure of effectiveness of the treatment provided. It is very important to identify possible factors correlating with remission. In our substudy of BeSt InTro, a randomized controlled trial of three antipsychotic drugs, 126 patients with ICD-10 diagnoses F20-29 (F23 excluded) were randomized to one of the second-generation antipsychotic drugs amisulpride, aripiprazole or olanzapine.
