Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), bovine alphaherpesvirus 1 (BoAHV1), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), and bovine parainfluenza virus 3 (BPIV-3) are involved in bovine respiratory disease. These viruses can infect the respiratory system and cause considerable economic losses to beef and dairy cattle herds. This study aimed to determine the serological profiles of steers for BVDV, BoAHV1, BRSV, and BPIV-3 upon their arrival at Brazilian feedlot facilities.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to create a species-specific multiplex PCR test to accurately identify Edwardsiella species, which are important in diagnosing fish bacterial diseases.
  • Researchers analyzed genomes from 62 Edwardsiella isolates, discovering errors in existing biochemical tests for classifying these bacteria and identifying unique genetic regions for their new PCR test.
  • The development of this PCR method revealed previously misclassified Edwardsiella in Brazil, highlighting the need to correct database inaccuracies and improve identification processes for researchers in the field.
