Impact of the removal of N-terminal non-structured amino acids on activity and stability of xylanases from Orpinomyces sp. PC-2.

Xylanases catalyze the random hydrolysis of xylan backbone from plant biomass and thus, they have application in the production of biofuels, Kraft pulps biobleaching and feed industry. Here, xylanases derived from Orpinomyces sp. PC-2 were engineered guided by molecular dynamics methods to obtain more thermostable enzymes.

Extracellular alpha-galactosidase from Debaryomyces hansenii UFV-1 and its use in the hydrolysis of raffinose oligosaccharides.

Raffinose oligosaccharides (RO) are the factors primarily responsible for flatulence upon ingestion of soybean-derived products. ROs are hydrolyzed by alpha-galactosidases that cleave alpha-1,6-linkages of alpha-galactoside residues. The objectives of this study were the purification and characterization of extracellular alpha-galactosidase from Debaryomyces hansenii UFV-1.
