Giant periscapular lipoma unmasked by post-bariatric surgery weight loss: a case report.

Giant lipomas, rare benign tumours composed of mature adipose tissue, represent only 1% of all lipomas, typically exceeding 10 cm in diameter or weighing over 1000 g. These tumours can cause nerve compression, discomfort, or functional impairment, necessitating surgical excision. We report a 52-year-old male with a giant intramuscular lipoma in the periscapular region, initially identified following significant weight loss after bariatric surgery.

There are a variety of surgical approaches and fixation methods with often variable outcomes. This systematic review investigates interventions, outcomes and complications of capitellum and trochlea fractures.

Single versus two-stage management of long-bone chronic osteomyelitis in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Chronic osteomyelitis is a debilitating bone infection, characterized by a persistent infection over months to years, poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its insidious nature and potential for severe bone and soft tissue destruction. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to review the literature on the treatment of chronic osteomyelitis in long bones and assess cure rates in single versus two-stage surgery.

Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines and registered with PROSPERO (ID: CRD42021231237), this review included studies that reported on the management of chronic osteomyelitis in long bones using either a planned one-stage or two-stage surgical approach in adult patients.

Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review is to examine the outcomes, complications, and potential advantages of using anatomical interlocking intramedullary nails (IMN) in the treatment of radius and ulnar shaft diaphyseal fractures in adults.

Methods: Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases were searched between January 2000 and January 2023. Studies meeting criteria were observational or randomized controlled trials evaluating outcomes in IMN for adult diaphyseal forearm fractures.

Strength after the arthroscopic Latarjet procedure: Are shoulder internal rotation, elbow flexion & supination strength decreased?

Background: The Latarjet procedure is an effective shoulder stabilizing surgery, however, the procedure results in an alteration of anatomy that may result in shoulder and elbow weakness. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess post-operative shoulder and elbow strength after the Latarjet procedure. We hypothesized that shoulder and elbow strength are not affected after the procedure.

The association between lower limb fractures and weight gain in adults: a prospective analysis of body mass index trends.

Purpose: Despite understanding the connection between obesity and fracture risk, there is limited research on the implications of lower limb fractures on subsequent changes in body mass index (BMI). Our study aimed to assess the impact of lower limb fractures on BMI alterations over an 18-month period.

Methods: A multi-center, prospective cohort study was conducted between January 2021 to June 2023, involving 494 adults with lower limb fractures.

Psychometric evaluation of Urdu-translated Amsterdam preoperative anxiety and information scale and assessment of preoperative anxiety in adult surgical patients of Karachi, Pakistan: A cross-sectional study.

Objective: The primary aim of this study was to develop an Urdu-translated version of the Amsterdam preoperative anxiety and information scale and perform a psychometric evaluation of it. A secondary aim was to estimate the prevalence of preoperative anxiety using Urdu-translated Amsterdam preoperative anxiety and information scale in patients undergoing surgery in Karachi, Pakistan, and the factors contributing to anxiety among them.

Method: This cross-sectional survey included 267 patients enrolled for elective surgery under general anesthesia from March 5 to November 20, 2022.

Splint versus no splint after ankle fracture fixation; Results from the multi-centre post-operative ankle splint trial (PAST).

Background: There is considerable variation in the rehabilitation of ankle fractures. Ankle fractures treated surgically are often immobilized or splinted in the early post-operative period, despite the lack of robust evidence supporting this intervention. Posterior Hip Dislocation in Association With Anterior Column Acetabular Fracture, Femoral Head Fracture, and Sciatic Nerve Injury: A Case Report.

Case: Posterior hip dislocations are classically associated with posterior acetabular wall fractures. We report the case of a 29-year-old man presented after a motorcycle accident with an unusual combination of injuries that included posterior hip dislocation, anterior column acetabulum fracture, femoral head fracture, and sciatic nerve injury. At the final follow-up, excellent outcomes were obtained with complete recovery of the sciatic nerve injury.

Pain, Pattern and Polytrauma - Predictors of Sexual Dysfunction in Pelvic Fractures: A Retrospective Multicenter Analysis.

Objectives: In the local and cultural setting of high trauma rates and a reserved outlook on sexual function, this study examines the incidence and underlying factors of sexual dysfunction (SD) following pelvic fractures.

Methods: A Multi-center retrospective cohort analysis performed in two general hospitals and one tertiary orthopedic center with collection between 2017 and 2019. Consecutive patients with pelvic fractures between January 2017 and February 2019 were followed up at 18-24 months to screen for new-onset SD using the International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) and Female-Sexual-Function-Index-6 (FSFI-6).

Operative treatment of distal radius fractures involving the volar rim-A systematic review of outcomes and complications.

Purpose: Distal radius fractures involving the volar rim are a subset of unstable and extremely distal fractures involving the volar lunate and/or scaphoid facets. Volar rim fractures (VRF) are challenging to manage and different treatment options have been described. This study aimed to compare outcomes and assess the rates of complications and implant removal for different treatment methods of wrist fractures involving VRF.

Successful nonoperative treatment of a closed posteromedial ankle dislocation without associated fractures - a case report.

Unlabelled: Pure ankle dislocations occurring in the absence of malleolus fractures are extremely rare injuries. These injuries often present with high-energy trauma and ligamentous injury. Comprehensive research is not available due to the rarity of the injury.

 Posttraumatic extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) instability is an increasingly recognized cause of ulnar-sided wrist pain that occurs when the ECU subsheath is disrupted.  The purpose of this systematic review was to assess outcomes of operatively treated posttraumatic ECU instability.  A systematic search of Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) databases was performed using "extensor carpi ulnaris" as the keyword.

B2 SINEs are noncoding retrotransposons that possess tRNA-like promoters and are normally silenced in healthy somatic tissue. Infection with the murine gammaherpesvirus MHV68 induces transcription of both SINEs and tRNAs, in part through the activity of the viral protein kinase ORF36.

Intraoperative arthrography favorably impacts the early outcome of operatively managed fractures of the lateral humeral condyle displaced 1-5 mm in children.

Background: Controversy exists surrounding the optimal approach to managing pediatric lateral humeral condyle fractures (LHCF). The difficulty in assessing the articular surface using radiography and the intra-articular element potentially involved make LHCF susceptible to complications and delayed diagnoses. Arthrography has been used to delineate the articular surface to aid in deciding whether closed or open reduction is necessary.
