Background: Prehabilitation may improve postoperative clinical outcomes among patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. This study evaluated the potential effects of a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) program performed before major abdominal surgery on patients' cardiorespiratory fitness and functional ability (secondary outcomes of pilot trial NCT02953119).

Methods: Patients were included before surgery to engage in a low-volume HIIT program with 3 sessions per week for 3 weeks.

Objective: To assess the feasibility of a prehabilitation program and its effects on physical performance and outcomes after major abdominal surgery.

Although physical activity is recommended in patients on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD), randomized controlled trials testing the effects of exercise in this population have given conflicting results. In general, aerobic exercises mostly failed to produce improvements in physical function, whereas resistance exercises, although less studied, appeared to be more promising. The use of sophisticated materials such as leg press and free weights may preclude widespread application of resistance training in patients on MHD.

Principles: Respiratory care is universally recognised as useful, but its indications and practice vary markedly. In order to improve the appropriateness of respiratory care in our hospital, we developed evidence-based local guidelines in a collaborative effort involving physiotherapists, physicians and health service researchers.

Methods: Recommendations were developed using the standardised RAND appropriateness method.

In recent years, breast carcinoma diagnostics and therapy have evolved very considerably, allowing conservative surgery in most cases. These kinds of major operations have been greatly simplified since the introduction of the sentinel lymph node approach, with the possibility of a day surgery operation under local anaesthesia. The aim of this study, after thorough analysis of the axillary lymph nodes with ultrasound and cytological examinations, was to assess whether it would be possible to distinguish between negative and metastatic lymph nodes and whether the operation could be performed under local anaesthesia without hospitalisation.

Background And Aims: The management of anal fistula is debatable. Although several procedures have been described, none of them is free from complications, such as anal incontinence and anal pain. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the employment of a glue composed of N-butil-2-cyanoacrylate and methacryloxysulfolane (Glubran 2) to treat fistula-in-ano.

Myofasciitis syndrome encompasses a group of disorders characterized by chronic inflammation and/or fibrosis of the subcutaneous septa and muscular fascia. We report on a patient in whom myositis was diagnosed in the areas previously irradiated for papillary thyroid carcinoma and anal canal carcinoma respectively 21 and 3 years after radiotherapy. We are not able to explain why myopathy developed at the same time in two different sites at a different interval from the two radiotherapic schemes.

Teratomas are neoplasms composed of tissue foreign to the area in which it is found. They are considered to be an acquired neoplastic disease and familial incidence has not been reported. Only one occurrence of teratoma between monozygotic twins has been found in the literature.

Teratomas are neoplasms that originate in pluripotential cells and contain representations of all three germ layers in a rather mature state. Specialized forms of teratoma with unilateral development of certain tissues, such as struma ovarii, argentaffin tumors, cholesteatoma, primary choriocarcinoma of the ovary, pseudomucinous cystoma and neurogenic cysts are known. In this paper we describe an ovarian teratoma consisting entirely of sebaceous glands.
