Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, with proto-oncogene, receptor tyrosine kinase (), or mutations detected in around 85% of cases. GISTs without or platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha () mutations are considered wild-type (WT), and their diverse molecular alterations and biological behaviors remain uncertain. They are usually not sensitive to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs).

Molecular profiling of solid tumors facilitates personalized, targeted therapeutic interventions. The ability to perform next-generation sequencing (NGS), especially from small tissue samples, in a short turnaround time (TAT) is essential to providing results that enable rapid clinical decisions. This multicenter study evaluated the performance of a CE in vitro diagnostic (IVD) assay, the Oncomine Dx Express Test, on the Ion Torrent Genexus System for detecting DNA and RNA variants in solid tumors.

Meningioma (MN) is an important cause of disability, and predictive tools for estimating the risk of recurrence are still scarce. The need for objective and cost-effective techniques addressed to this purpose is well known. In this study, we present methylation-specific multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MS-MLPA) as a friendly method for deepening the understanding of the mechanisms underlying meningioma progression.

Our 25 years of experience in carrier diagnosis of hemophilia A (HA) and B (HB) in Mexican population comprises linkage analysis of intragenic F8/F9 neutral variants along with, in severe HA (SHA), detection of F8 int22h and int1h inversions. In symptomatic carriers (SCs) we explored Lyonization to explain their symtomatology. From a DNA-Bank of 3,000 samples, intragenic restriction fragment length (RFLPs) and short tandem repeats (STRs) of F8/F9 genes were assessed by PCR-PAGE and GeneScan.

Background: The molecular classification of gastric cancer recognises two subtypes prone to immune checkpoint blockade: the microsatellite unstable and the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-related tumours. We aim to assess the concordance between immunohistochemistry and PCR for microsatellite status evaluation, and explore the value of microsatellite instability (MSI) and EBV as predictive survival factors.

Material And Methods: We collected 246 consecutively diagnosed gastric cancer cases in all stages and evaluated the microsatellite status using immunohistochemistry for mismatched repair (MMR) proteins and PCR.

The combination of positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides a benefit for diagnostic imaging. Still, attenuation correction (AC) is a challenge in PET/MRI compared to stand-alone PET and PET-computed tomography (PET/CT). In the absence of photonic transmission sources, AC in PET/MRI is usually based on retrospective segmentation of MR images or complex additional MR-sequences.

Aims: The risk assessment of spitzoid lesions is one of the most difficult challenges in dermatopathology practice. In this regard, the loss of p16 expression and the homozygous deletion of CDKN2A, have been pointed in the literature as reliable indicators of high risk. However, these findings are poorly reproducible, and the molecular bases underlying the loss of p16 expression remain unclear.

Small round cell sarcomas are aggressive bone and soft tissue tumors that predominantly affect children and young adults. A new group of sarcomas with a recurrent BCOR-CCNB3 gene fusion has been recently identified in previously unclassifiable small round cell sarcomas. BCOR-CCNB3 sarcomas share clinical and pathologic similarities with Ewing sarcoma, but show a stronger male predilection and less aggressiveness, as well as distinct gene expression profiling and pangenomic SNP array analyses.

Purpose: Glioblastoma (GB) is the most frequent and most malignant primary brain tumor in adults. Previously, it has been found that both genetic and epigenetic factors may play critical roles in its etiology and prognosis. In addition, it has been found that the epidermal growth factor receptor gene (EGFR) is frequently over-expressed and amplified in primary GBs.

Idiopathic recurrent pregnancy loss (IRPL) is defined by three or more consecutive miscarriages occurring before the twentieth week of gestation as a result of unidentified etiological factors. The results of previous studies have indicated that prothrombotic factors play a pathogenic role in early and late pregnancy. This study aimed to identify inherited prothrombotic and hypofibrinolytic risk factors in Mexican-Mestizo patients with IRPL.

Gastric cancer (GC) pathogenesis involves genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors. Epigenetic alterations, such as DNA methylation are considered pivotal in the inactivation of tumor-related genes. We assessed a methylation panel of 5 genes to study their association to GC progression and microsatellite instability (MSI), and studied the role of RUNX3 in GC pathogenesis and the tumor immune microenvironment.

Background: Differentiation of Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT) and Ewing-like tumors remains problematic. Certain ESFT with morphological and immunohistochemical (IHC) profiles lack the EWSR1-ETS transcript. To improve diagnostic accuracy we investigated the presence of several specific transcripts in 200 small round cell tumors (SRCT) displaying ESFT morphology and immunophenotype in which EWSR1 FISH analysis was non-informative or negative.
