Aging syndromes are rare genetic disorders sharing the features of accelerated senescence. Among these, Mandibular hypoplasia, Deafness and Progeroid features with concomitant Lipodystrophy (MDPL; OMIM #615381) is a rare autosomal dominant disease due to a in-frame deletion in gene, encoding the catalytic subunit of DNA polymerase delta. Here, we investigated how MSCs may contribute to the phenotypes and progression of premature aging syndromes such as MDPL.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease affecting the central nervous system (CNS) with the immune system attacking myelin sheaths leading to neuronal death. While several disease-modifying therapies are available to treat MS, these therapies are not universally effective and do not stop disease progression. More personalized long-term treatment options that target specific aspects of the disease, such as reducing relapse frequency, delaying disability accumulation, and addressing symptoms that impact daily functioning, as well as therapies that can promote neuroprotection and repair are needed.

The presence of mutagenic and carcinogenic N-nitrosamine impurities in medicinal products poses a safety risk. While incorporating antioxidants in formulations is a potential mitigation strategy, concerns arise regarding their interference with drug absorption by inhibiting intestinal drug transporters. Our study screened thirty antioxidants for inhibitory effects on key intestinal transporters-OATP2B1, P-gp, and BCRP in HEK-293 cells (OATP2B1) or membrane vesicles (P-gp, BCRP) using H-estrone sulfate, H-N-methyl quinidine, and H-CCK8 as substrates, respectively.

Sex is a significant source of heterogeneity in schizophrenia, with more negative symptoms in males and more affective symptoms and internalizing comorbidity in females. In this narrative review, we argue that there are likely sex differences in the pathophysiological mechanisms of schizophrenia-spectrum disorders (SZ) that originate during puberty and relate to the sex-specific impacts of pubertal maturation on brain development. Pubertal maturation might also trigger underlying (genetic or other) vulnerabilities in at-risk individuals, influencing brain development trajectories that contribute to the emergence of SZ.

L-asparaginase (ASNase) is an important biological drug used to treat Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It catalyzes the hydrolysis of L-asparagine (Asn) in the bloodstream and, since ALL cells cannot synthesize Asn, protein synthesis is impaired leading to apoptosis. Despite its therapeutic importance, ASNase treatment is associated to side effects, mainly hypersensitivity and immunogenicity.

A heavily calcified or "lead-pipe" aorta can present many challenges to any surgeon. There is higher risk of vessel wall rupture or disruption, distal embolization, and prolonged ischemia time of visceral organs due to longer clamp times. Hybrid revascularization techniques, which were originally described in visceral revascularization during complex aortic procedures, can be potentially utilized for lower extremity bypasses.

Anthropogenic impulsive sound sources with high intensity are a threat to marine life and it is crucial to keep them under control to preserve the biodiversity of marine ecosystems. Underwater explosions are one of the representatives of these impulsive sound sources, and existing detection techniques are generally based on monitoring the pressure level as well as some frequency-related features. In this paper, we propose a complementary approach to the underwater explosion detection problem through assessing the arrow of time.
