Prevalence and Impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences on Chicago Public School Students in the Youth Risk Behavior Survey.

Background: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) can impair health and other outcomes. To obtain district-level data about the prevalence and impact of ACEs in Chicago Public Schools (CPS), we advocated for CPS to add a short ACE screener to the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and analyzed the results.

Methods: Responses to the screener were scored zero, one, or two ACEs.

A review of CARE's Community Score Card experience and evidence.

The global community's growing enthusiasm for the potential of social accountability approaches to improve health system performance and accelerate health progress makes it imperative that we learn from social accountability intervention implementation experience and results. To this end, we carried out a review of Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere, Inc. (CARE)'s experience with the Community Score Card© (CSC)-a social accountability approach CARE developed in Malawi.

The importance of community mobilization in interventions to improve sexual, reproductive, and maternal health outcomes: A review of the evidence.

Community participation, engagement, and mobilization are common components of many sexual, reproductive, and maternal health (SRMH) programs, but little consensus exists among researchers on how critical these program components are. Using principles of realist review, we reviewed a spectrum of community mobilization interventions to evaluate their use in improving five SRMH areas. Consistent with theoretical assumptions, we found that actively involving community members in leading intervention activities and/or taking ownership tends to produce better SRMH outcomes than simply relying on community members as implementers.

Understanding the black box: a systematic review of the measurement of the community mobilization process in evaluations of interventions targeting sexual, reproductive, and maternal health.

Community mobilization (CM) interventions are often used to improve sexual, reproductive, and maternal health (SRMH). This systematic review provides an overview of CM indicators used in evaluation and then focuses on the use of linking constructs-those measures of the process of CM between programmatic outputs and outcomes. We identified 108 English-language articles evaluating 86 CM interventions that target SRMH.
