Background: Mycobacterial culture is routinely performed to diagnose tuberculosis (TB) in Canada. Globally, meta-analyses suggest that up to 2% of positive cultures are falsely positive for due to laboratory cross-contamination. Five patients from distinct clinical institutions in Montréal were diagnosed with culture-positive TB as their clinical samples were processed in a centralized mycobacteria laboratory.

Background: Computer-aided detection (CAD) algorithms for automated chest X-ray (CXR) reading have been endorsed by the World Health Organization for tuberculosis (TB) triage, but independent, multi-country assessment and comparison of current products are needed to guide implementation.
Methods: We conducted a head-to-head evaluation of five CAD algorithms for TB triage across seven countries. We included CXRs from adults who presented to outpatient facilities with at least two weeks of cough in India, Madagascar, the Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam.
Cough is a common and commonly ignored symptom of lung disease. Cough is often perceived as difficult to quantify, frequently self-limiting, and non-specific. However, cough has a central role in the clinical detection of many lung diseases including tuberculosis (TB), which remains the leading infectious disease killer worldwide.

As part of a mixed study, the content of 18 semi-structured interviews with Swiss community-dwelling older adults was analyzed to investigate contextual and interactional aspects that might influence their choice to complete ACD. Results show that EoL planning vary greatly.

The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of RC behaviors in an adult Canadian community sample and to explore associated factors.
Study Design: A self-report online questionnaire was administered from September 2020 to April 2021 in Quebec and Ontario, Canada.
During the pandemic, older adults were perceived as a vulnerable group without considering their various strengths. This study explored the associations between character strengths and resilience, and verified if some of these could predict resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. A sample of 92 participants (women = 79.

This study addresses whether a high-fat, high-sucrose diet causes cardiac and diaphragm muscle abnormalities in male rats and whether supplementation with the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine reverses diet-induced dysfunction. What is the main finding and its importance? N-Acetylcysteine attenuated the effects of high-fat, high-sucrose diet on markers of cardiac hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction, but neither high-fat, high-sucrose diet nor N-acetylcysteine affected the diaphragm. These results support the use of N-acetylcysteine to attenuate cardiovascular dysfunction induced by a 'Western' diet.

The purpose of this study was to understand how violence and homelessness intertwine in women's life courses in such regions. On the basis of past research showing that gender socialization around traditional roles and conservative values is particularly tenacious in non-urban areas, we conducted life-course interviews with 22 women in 13 different towns and villages of these two regions.

Summary: Even though an extensive body of literature on children has swept the field of domestic violence in the last 30 years, little is known about how domestic violence shelter workers understand children's situations and how they intervene with them. This article seeks to address this gap in the literature, and presents the results of a study conducted with 48 advocates in the province of Québec (Canada).
Findings: The data suggest that most of the participants adopt a child-centred perspective and consider the children in their own right during their stay.

SARS-CoV-2 whole genome sequencing is a molecular biology tool performed to support many aspects of the response to the pandemic. Freezing of primary clinical nasopharyngeal swabs and shipment to reference laboratories is usually required for sequencing. Cobas PCR Media transport medium facilitates high throughput SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR analyses on cobas platforms.

Whole-genome sequencing confirmed the Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolate belonged to lineage 3 and harbored streptomycin resistance. We recommend reverse zoonosis prevention and determination of whether lemurs are able to maintain M.

Age-related alterations in sleep and chronobiology may exaggerate CVD susceptibility in older individuals. The mechanisms responsible for the association between sleep deprivation and CVD are not fully understood, but endothelial dysfunction may play a central role.

Methods: The sample was made up of 44 participants (19 men and 25 women) aged 65-85 years, with a mean age of 71.4.
This study aimed to examine the link between friendship instability during emerging adulthood and depressive symptoms. The moderating role of gender and the pursuit (or not) of postsecondary education was also tested. A total of 268 participants (60.

Semi-directed interviews ( = 18) with people over 65 years highlighted two different but articulated fears in relation to end-of-life care: on one hand, older adults fear not being allowed to die and being subjected to therapeutic obstinacy; on the other, they fear not being cared for properly, due to their age and a lack of financial resources in the health and social care system. Recommendations are given to assist professionals in discussing these fears with the people concerned and their families.
