Background: Even if Meares-Stamey 4-glass (M&S) test is regarded a decisive tool for diagnosing prostatitis its use is only rarely performed in everyday clinical practice. Here, we analyze if the diagnostic yield of the M&S test could be improved by a pre-test categorization of patients due to undergo a M&S test.
Methods: All clinical and microbiological data of patients who underwent M&S test in two urological centers from January 2004 to December 2021 were analyzed in this retrospective cohort study.
The chelating and sequestering ability of a glyphosate metabolite, the aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) towards bi- and trivalent metal cations, such as Ca, Mg, Zn, Cu and Al, were investigated in aqueous solutions of NaCl, in an ionic strength range of 0.1 ≤ I/mol dm ≤ 1.0 and at constant temperature of T = 298.

The elucidation of the nature of such processes represents one of the most challenging unsolved problems in the field of material science. In this context, two important theories have contributed significantly to the interpretation of these phenomena: the Mode-Coupling theory (MCT) and the Percolation theory (PT).

The earliest cases in Trentino were reported in the first week of March 2020, with most of the cases occurring in the winter sport areas in the Dolomites mountain range. The number of reported cases decreased over the summer months and was followed by a second wave in the autumn and winter of 2020.

It is suggested that -chemistry is a necessary element of the transformation to meet the targets of net zero emissions by year 2050 and that this conversion from the current petrochemistry is feasible. However, the acceleration of the development of catalytic technologies based on the use of renewable energy sources (indicated as reactive catalysis) is necessary, evidencing that these are part of a system of changes and thus should be assessed from this perspective.

Molecular mechanisms for N fixation (solar NH) and CO conversion to C2+ products in enzymatic conversion (), electrocatalysis, metal complexes and plasma catalysis are analyzed and compared. It is evidenced that differently from what is present in thermal and plasma catalysis, the electrocatalytic path requires not only the direct coordination and hydrogenation of undissociated N molecules, but it is necessary to realize features present in the mechanism. There is the need for (i) a multi-electron and -proton simultaneous transfer, not as sequential steps, (ii) forming bridging metal hydride species, (iii) generating intermediates stabilized by bridging multiple metal atoms and (iv) the capability of the same sites to be effective both in N fixation and in CO reduction to C2+ products.

Lateral flow immunoassays for antibody testing have been viewed as a cheap and rapidly deployable method for determining previous infection with SARS-CoV-2; however, these assays have shown unacceptably low sensitivity. We report on nine lateral flow immunoassays currently available and compare their titer sensitivity in serum to a best-practice enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and viral neutralization assay.

Objective: To evaluate spreading of bacteria into irrigation fluid and blood during RIRS for stone management and to correlate such spreading with infectious complications.
Design, Setting, And Participants: From January to December 2017, 38 patients who underwent RIRS for stones in two urological units were enrolled in this prospective, longitudinal cohort study.
Bisphenol A (BPA)-free epoxy resins, synthesized from low molecular weight cycloaliphatic compounds, may represents promising materials for stone conservation due to their very appealing and tunable physico-chemical properties, such as viscosity, curing rate and penetration ability, being also easy to apply and handle. Furthermore, alkoxysilanes have been widely employed as inorganic strengtheners since they are easily hydrolysed inside lithic substrates affording SiO linkages with the stone matrix. Taking into account the advantages of these two classes of materials, this work has been focused on the development of innovative conservation materials, based on hybrid epoxy-silica BPA-free resins obtained by reaction of 1,4-cycloexanedimethanol diglycidylether (CHDM-DGE) with various siloxane precursors, i.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated all women with recurrent urinary tract infection and asymptomatic bacteriuria who had been enrolled in two previous studies. Data from urological visits, urine analyses and microbiological evaluations were collected.
The future feasibility of decarbonized industrial chemical production based on the substitution of fossil feedstocks (FFs) with renewable energy (RE) sources is discussed. Indeed, the use of FFs as an energy source has the greatest impact on the greenhouse gas emissions of chemical production. This future scenario is indicated as "solar-driven" or "RE-driven" chemistry.

Materials And Methods: All patients who underwent urologic surgical procedures from December 2008 to October 2013 in a tertiary referral urologic center were considered for this study. All patients received antimicrobial prophylaxis in line with European Association of Urology guidelines on urologic infections.
We evaluated, in a preliminary study, the efficacy of umbelliferone, arbutin, and N-acetylcysteine to inhibit biofilm formation on urinary catheter. We used 20 urinary catheters: 5 catheters were incubated with Enterococcus faecalis (control group); 5 catheters were incubated with E. faecalis in presence of umbelliferone (150 mg), arbutin (60 mg), and N-acetylcysteine (150 mg) (group 1); 5 catheters were incubated with E.

The reduction of antibiotic overuse for ABU is consequently an important issue for antimicrobial stewardship and to reduce the emergence of multidrug resistant strains. There are two issues in everyday urological practice that require special attention: the role of ABU in pre-operative prophylaxis and in women affected by recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTIs).

An important element is also the integration of solar energy and CO2 use within biobased production. This concept paper, after shortly introducing the motivation and recent trends in this area, particularly at the industrial scale, and some of the possible models (olefin and intermediate/high-added-value chemicals production), discusses the opportunities and needs for research to address the challenge of integrating bio- and solar refineries.

Background: The evolution of resistant pathogens is a worldwide health crisis and adherence to European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines on antibiotic prophylaxis may be an important way to improve antibiotic stewardship and reduce patient harm and costs.
Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains and health care costs during a period of adherence to EAU guidelines in a tertiary referral urologic institution.

The use of biomass, bio-waste and CO2 derived raw materials, the latter synthesized using H2 produced using renewable energy sources, opens new scenarios to develop a sustainable and low carbon chemical production, particularly in regions such as Europe lacking in other resources. This tutorial review discusses first this new scenario with the aim to point out, between the different possible options, those more relevant to enable this new future scenario for the chemical production, commenting in particular the different drivers (economic, technological and strategic, environmental and sustainability and socio-political) which guide the selection. The case of the use of non-fossil fuel based raw materials for the sustainable production of light olefins is discussed in more detail, but the production of other olefins and polyolefins, of drop-in intermediates and other platform molecules are also analysed.
