Background: Brainstem cavernous malformations (BCM) constitute one of the most controversial and challenging neurological pathologies: both natural course and surgical manipulation can lead to severe neurological symptoms by direct compression or following hemorrhage of this highly eloquent brain region.
Methods: The vascular section of the prospectively collected neurosurgical database of our center (2011-2023) was retrospectively reviewed, seeking all patients operated on for a sporadic BCM. Clinical, radiological and surgical data, operative records and videos were analyzed by independent reviewers with the assistance of a dedicated neuropsychologist, blinded to the hospital course.
Objective: The aim of this study is to report on experience acquired during the laryngeal electrophysiological assessment with Co-MEP and L-EMG in pediatric patients with acquired, congenital, and syndromic vocal fold paralysis (VFP), and correlate our findings with patients' characteristics, their comorbidities, and VFP etiology.
Methods: Pediatric patients with suspected or previously diagnosed unilateral or bilateral VFP underwent electrophysiological records under general anesthesia; corticobulbar motor-evoked potentials (Co-MEPs) and laryngeal electromyography (L-EMG) of thyroarytenoid (TA) and posterior cricoarytenoid (PCA) muscles were recorded.

Background: Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is a minimally invasive ablative technique with specific indications for neuro-oncology, especially in the case of lesions in eloquent areas. Even being performed through a small catheter under stereotactic conditions, the risk of damaging vital structures such as white matter tracts or cortical eloquent areas is not negligible. Methods: We compared cortical response (N20p-P25p) in different groups of patients identified by demographic, clinical, and neurophysiological factors and performed a cluster analysis for classifying the natural occurrence of subgroups of patients.
Results: No significant differences of N20p-P25p were found among different age-dependent groups, and in patients with or without PNS/CNS abnormalities of sensory pathways, while myoclonic/epileptic patients showed higher N20p-P25p than other groups.

In March 2020, a physician working in an Italian pediatric hospital had flu-like symptoms with anosmia and dysgeusia, and following a reverse transcription PCR (RT/PCR) test with a nasopharyngeal swab tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. After home quarantine, 21 days from the beginning of the symptoms, the patient tested negative in two subsequent swabs and was declared healed and readmitted to work.
