Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma poses a significant public health burden in China, necessitating the economic evaluation of new therapeutic strategies for policy-makers and clinicians. The international, randomized phase 3 trial CARES-310 revealed that camrelizumab plus rivoceranib provided a substantial clinical benefit in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, but the economic outcome remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of camrelizumab plus rivoceranib versus sorafenib as first-line treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (CARES-310) from the perspective of the Chinese health care system.

Background: Esophageal squamous carcinoma (ESCC) is the most prevalent pathological subtype of esophageal cancer (EC). It has the characteristics of significant local invasion, quick disease progression, high recurrence rates, and a dismal prognosis for survival. Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/serine-threonine kinase (PI3K/AKT) is a signaling system whose aberrant activation regulates downstream factors, leading to the promotion of cancer development.

Objective: Nivolumab, recently proven in a phase 3 clinical trial (CheckMate 901) to enhance survival when combined with gemcitabine-cisplatin for advanced urothelial carcinoma. This study aimed to assess its cost-effectiveness against gemcitabine-cisplatin alone, from US and Chinese payers' perspectives.

Methods: A partitioned survival model was established to assess the life-years, quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs), lifetime costs, and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) of nivolumab plus gemcitabine-cisplatin versus gemcitabine-cisplatin alone as first-line treatment for advanced urothelial carcinoma.

Article Synopsis
  • Nusinersen is the first targeted therapy for spinal muscular atrophy, a rare disease occurring in about 1 in 10,000 to 20,000 births, making safety reports on the drug essential for real-world understanding.* -
  • A study analyzed adverse event reports for nusinersen from December 2016 to March 2023 in the FAERS database, identifying 4,807 cases and 106 positive signals for adverse events using specific analytical methods.* -
  • Common adverse events included pneumonia and headaches, while unexpected serious events like sepsis and cardiac arrest were also noted, highlighting the need for healthcare providers to manage these risks effectively.*

Nucleotide binding and oligomeric domain-like receptor X1 (NLRX1), a member of the NLR family, is associated with the physiological and pathological processes of inflammation, autophagy, immunity, metabolism and mitochondrial regulation, and has been demonstrated to have pro- or antitumor effects in various tumor types. However, the biological function of NLRX1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has remained elusive. In the present study, by using bioinformatics methods, the differential expression of NLRX1 at the mRNA level was examined.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play critical roles in the tumorigenesis and radiosensitivity of multiple cancers. Nevertheless, the biological functions of circRNA periostin (circ-POSTN) in esophageal cancer (EC) progression and radiosensitivity have not been well elucidated.

Methods: The expression of circ-POSTN, microRNA-876-5p (miR-876-5p), and proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase (FYN) was analyzed by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR).

Cholinesterase inhibitor (ChEIs) is the first-line drug for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Understanding torsade de pointes (TdP)/QT prolongation with different ChEIs is essential for its safe and rational administration. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between different ChEIs and TdP/QT prolongation.

The relatively new discipline of pharmacovigilance (PV) aims to monitor the safety of drugs throughout their evolution and is essential to discovering new drug risks. Due to their specific and complex physiology, children, pregnant women, and elderly adults are more prone to adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Additionally, the lack of clinical trial data exacerbates the challenges faced with pharmacotherapy in these populations.

Objective: The ASTRUM-005 trial demonstrated that adding serplulimab to chemotherapy significantly prolonged the survival of patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (SCLC), but also increased the risk of adverse events. Given the high cost of serplulimab compared to chemotherapy, this study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of serplulimab plus chemotherapy as a first-line treatment for extensive-stage SCLC from the perspective of China's healthcare system.

Methods: A Markov model was developed to simulate the disease process of extensive-stage SCLC and estimate the health outcomes and direct medical costs of patients.

Background: Absent in melanoma 1-like (AIM1L), also known as crystalline beta gamma domain containing 2. The relationship between AIM1L and tumors has not been fully investigated, and the biological function of AIM1L in different tumors is unknown, so we bioinformatically explored a possible relationship between AIM1L and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Methods: AIM1L mRNA expression was detected by the Gene Expression Omnibus database (GSE20347, GSE161533, and GSE53625), and protein level expression was detected by immunohistochemistry.

Herein, we have prepared two kinds of carbon dots (CDs) on the basis of pea (p-CDs) and sesame (s-CDs) through a facile hydrothermal way. Basically, the two CDs described here exhibited obvious superiority mainly including satisfactory stability, non-toxicity and photobleaching resistance, and also the whole synthesis procedures for both p-CDs and s-CDs were environmental-friendly. Significantly, p-CDs showed specific binding with pathogenic fungus of Cryptococcus neoformans, and thereby revealing the potential of staining the fungus.
