Bottom-up syntheses of carbon nanodots (CND) using solvothermal treatment of citric acid are known to afford nanometer-sized, amorphous polycitric acid-based materials. The addition of suitable co-reactants in the form of in-situ synthesized N-hetero-π-conjugated chromophores facilitates hereby the overall functionalization. Our incentive was to design a CND model that features phenazine (P-CND) - a well-known N-hetero-π-conjugated chromophore - to investigate the influence of the CND matrix on its redox chemistry as well as photochemistry.

The authors applied ecological momentary assessment to collect high-resolution data to identify and characterise a subgroup of vulnerable patients who experience worsening of psychological symptoms after surgery. The study prompts not only consideration of psychological factors, but also how best to leverage ecological momentary assessment to understand the perioperative experience.

Design: This study is a secondary analysis that leveraged data from a RCT of transcutaneous electrical stimulation for CIPN to test whether personalized outcomes could minimize potential floor effects and increase the assay sensitivity of pain clinical trials (ie, ability to detect a true treatment effect).
Setting: Participants were recruited for a RCT from community oncology clinics in the United States.
Objectives: Behavioral factors of pain catastrophizing and perceived injustice are associated with pain intensity in chronic pain. Diminished heart rate variability (HRV) is also strongly associated with chronic pain. These factors have been less explored earlier in the pain experience and it is unclear whether they play a role in the transition from acute to chronic pain.

Plastic discs with 2.5-mm deep cavities were filled with a conventional (Mosaic™) or bulk-fill (Tetric® PowerFill) composite and cured with a BluePhase® PowerCure curing light at normal and high-power settings, with light tip placement at distance and/or 45 degree angle.

Background: Epidemiological studies can help identify underdiagnosed and undertreated populations. Understanding migraine prevalence in collegiate student-athletes is essential for positive healthcare outcomes including development of prevention and treatment plans.
Establishing clinically meaningful changes in pain experiences remains important for clinical trials of chronic pain treatments. Regulatory guidance and pain measurement initiatives have recommended including patient-reported global assessment measures (eg, Patient-Global Impression of Change [PGIC]) to aid interpretation of within-patient differences in domain-specific clinical trial outcomes (eg, pain intensity). The objectives of this systematic review were to determine the frequency of global assessment measures inclusion, types of measures, domains assessed, number and types of response options, and how measures were analyzed.

Purpose: To describe injury mechanisms and evaluate injury mechanisms as predictors of symptom severity, return to play (RTP) initiation, and unrestricted RTP (URTP) in a cohort of collegiate soccer players.
Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 2.
Computer simulation methods can aid in the rational design of drugs aimed at a specific target, typically a protein. The affinity of a drug for its target is given by the free energy of binding. Binding can be further characterized by the enthalpy and entropy changes in the process.

Typically assessed in cerebrospinal fluid, recent advances have allowed this biomarker to be more easily measured in plasma. This study assesses plasma NfL in people with HIV (PWH) compared with people without HIV (PWoH), and its relationship with cognitive impairment, cardiovascular risk, and a neuroimaging metric of brain aging [brain-age gap (BAG)].

However, assessing and combining efficacy and safety domains, using a single composite outcome measure, can provide a more comprehensive assessment of the overall effect of a treatment. Furthermore, composite outcomes can incorporate information regarding the relationship between the individual outcomes.

Thus, the assay sensitivity of pain trials (ie, the ability of the trial to detect a true treatment effect) could be improved by including prespecified baseline factors in the primary statistical model. The objective of this focus article was to characterize the baseline factors included in statistical analyses of chronic pain RCTs.

HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND) is a spectrum disorder and up to 50% of PWH are reported to suffer from HAND. Altered waste clearance from the brain, chronic neuroinflammation and impaired metabolic processes may contribute to abnormal aging in PWH and are more common among those who suffer from HAND.

However, the literature on concussion outcomes is equivocal and limited by a variety of diagnostic approaches.
Methods: The current study used a rigorous, open- access concussion identification method-the Ohio State University Traumatic Brain Injury Identification method (OSU TBI-ID) to identify concussion and periods of repeated, subclinical head trauma in 108 young adult athletes who also underwent a comprehensive protocol of cognitive tests, mood/anxiety questionnaires, and high-angular-resolution diffusion-weighted brain imaging to evaluate potential changes in white matter microstructure.
Carbon nanodots (CNDs) synthesized from citric acid and formyl derivatives, that is, formamide, urea, or N-methylformamide, stand out through their broad-range visible-light absorbance and extraordinary photostability. Despite their potential, their use has thus far been limited to imaging research. This work has now investigated the link between CNDs' photochemical properties and their chemical structure.

Expectations of outcome in such trials may account for some of this variability, and thereby impede development of novel pain treatments. Measurement of participants' expectations prior to initiating study treatment (active or placebo) is infrequent, variable, and often unvalidated.

Through tight metabolic coupling, astrocytes provide energy to neurons by delivering lactate and cholesterol and by taking up and processing neuron-derived peroxidated fatty acids (pFA). Disruption of CNS lipid homeostasis is observed in people who use cocaine and in several neurodegenerative disorders, including HIV.
