Compared with LiTiO, LiCrTiO with the same spinel structure exhibits superior conductivity and Li diffusion properties. However, there has been no extensive study on LiCrTiO as an anode material in lithium ion batteries, due to its pulverization, loss of electrical contact, and particle aggregation. A unique architecture based on hybrid porous CNTs embedding ultrasmall LiCrTiO nanoparticles (6 ± 2 nm) was designed by using a facile sol-gel process combined with subsequent heat treatment.

The interaction of helium with an α-Al2O3(0001) surface was studied by density functional theory (DFT), with consideration of the effects of He-coverage, surface defects, He-coadsorption and van der Waals interaction, respectively. Adsorption energies of helium atoms are very small as expected for a physisorbed state, varying from -20 to -5 meV, which is attributed to the small overlap between Al 3sp, O 2sp and He 1s states. A correlation is obtained for the adsorption energies and the He to nearest-neighbor Al atom distances on a clean (0001) surface.

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) insecticidal crystal (Cry) proteins are effective against some insect pests in sprays and transgenic crops, although the evolution of resistance could threaten the long-term efficacy of such Bt use. One strategy to delay resistance to Bt crops is to "pyramid" two or more Bt proteins that bind to distinct receptor proteins within the insect midgut. The most common Bt pyramid in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.

Objective: The protozoan Toxoplasma gondii expresses large amounts of a 37 kDa Type 2C serine-threonine phosphatase, the so-called TgPP2C which has been suggested to contribute to parasite growth regulation. Ectopic expression in mammalian cells also indicated that the enzyme could regulate growth and survival. In this study, we aimed to investigate the interaction of TgPP2C with human SSRP1 (structure-specific recognition protein 1) and the effects of TgPP2C on cell viability.

Owing to the excellent performance, the generalized cross-spring flexure pivots (GCSFP), formed by two symmetric crossing leaves at an arbitrary position along the radial direction, had been widely used in precision instruments. However, the accuracy of GCSFPs is lower than the required one for some ultra-precision instruments. Especially for the large angles, the axis drift of GCSFPs cannot be ignored.

Ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) with an intergrown two-dimensional p6mm and three-dimensional Fd3m pore structure have been prepared by the carbonization of reverse copolymer-phenolic resin composites, which were themselves formed by a soft-template method by simply adjusting the ratios of ethanol and hexane. The microstructure of the OMCs was analyzed by small-angle X-ray scattering, nitrogen adsorption isotherms, and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed the structure of the OMCs obtained have the mesophase transition from p6mm to the intergrowth of p6mm/Fd3m and finally to Fd3m as the ratio of ethanol to hexane is changed.

The reactivity of 2,6-lutidine/BR₃ and pyridine/BR₃ Lewis pairs (R = F, Me, C₆F₅) is investigated in detail by quantum chemical calculations. The observed reactivity difference of these pairs is interpreted in terms of the existence of a "frustrated complex" on the potential energy curve for coordination of Lewis acid and base, the profiles of local reactivity descriptors with respect to the bond distance between acid and base centers, and the thermodynamic/kinetic properties of the heterolytic dihydrogen cleavage reaction. The calculated results are shown to account well for the observed reactivity of these Lewis pairs.

The nanoporous metal-organic framework [Fe(pz)Ni(CN)(4)], 1 (where pz is pyrazine), exhibits hysteretic spin-crossover at ambient conditions and is robust to the adsorption and desorption of a wide range of small molecular guests, both gases (N(2), O(2), CO(2)) and vapors (methanol, ethanol, acetone, acetonitrile, and toluene). Through the comprehensive analysis of structure, host-guest properties, and spin-crossover behaviors, it is found that this pillared Hofmann system uniquely displays both guest-exchange-induced changes to spin-crossover and spin-crossover-induced changes to host-guest properties, with direct dynamic interplay between these two phenomena. Guest desorption and adsorption cause pronounced changes to the spin-crossover behavior according to a systematic trend in which larger guests stabilize the high-spin state and therefore depress the spin-crossover temperature of the host lattice.
