Background And Objectives: Pediatric residency programs are required by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to provide residents with patient-care and quality metrics to facilitate self-identification of knowledge gaps to prioritize improvement efforts. Trainees are interested in receiving this data, but this is a largely unmet need. Our objectives were to (1) design and implement an automated dashboard providing individualized data to residents, and (2) examine the usability and acceptability of the dashboard among pediatric residents.

A previously healthy 9-year-old immigrant girl from Mexico was evaluated in the emergency department (ED) with one week of fatigue, fevers, rhinorrhea, and cough. She initially presented to her primary pediatrician, where a complete blood count revealed neutropenia, prompting referral to the ED. In the ED, she was found to be influenza A-positive.

Collaboration between pediatric primary care providers (PCPs) and CPSs is an innovative model of care that may address this shortage. A tiered model of collaboration, ranging from brief speciality consultation to intensive psychiatric services, may help with early treatment and expeansion of available services to a larger population.

Approach: This article describes the development of a rubric aimed at introducing specific performance indicators to measure the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education competencies.
Results: The potential benefits and implications for medical education include specifying performance indicators and outcomes, ensuring that assessment is coherent and consistent for all residents, measuring resident outcomes based on real-life criteria, providing opportunities for residents to demonstrate proficiency in a specific competency and outcome level, and improving the quality of assessment.
