The distribution of counterions and dopants within electrically doped semicrystalline conjugated polymers, such as poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT), plays a pivotal role in charge transport. The distribution of counterions in doped films of P3HT with controlled crystallinity was examined using polarized resonant soft X-ray scattering (P-RSoXS). The changes in scattering of doped P3HT films containing trifluoromethanesulfonimide (TFSI) and 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (FTCNQ) as counterions to the charge carriers revealed distinct differences in their nanostructure.

This study explores relationship between reported posttraumatic growth and perceived social support and social activism in community-based organizations dealing directly with issues of missing persons. Family members who reported higher levels of social support from family, friends, and important others reported significant higher levels of posttraumatic growth.

Supporting child welfare supervisors to improve worker retention.

Recent child welfare research has identified supervisors as key to retaining qualified and committed workers. This paper describes implementation of a federally funded child welfare training initiative designed to improve worker retention largely through developing, implementing, and evaluating a statewide supervisor training program in a Midwestern state. Unique to this collaborative effort was involving all child welfare supervisors in identifying needed content components, developing competencies, and conducting self-assessments.

Attributing responsibility for child maltreatment when domestic violence is present.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine factors that influence how child welfare workers attribute responsibility for child maltreatment and child safety in cases involving domestic violence.

Methods: The study used a factorial survey approach, combining elements of survey research with an experimental design. Case vignettes were constructed by randomly assigning characteristics to vignettes believed to be related to assessments about responsibility for child maltreatment.

An "organization-in-environment" perspective can help researchers understand how rurality influences child welfare practice. Drawing from theoretical perspectives on environment and organizations, researchers find rural/urban differences in practice at the level of the organization, which is the immediate environment of child welfare practice, and also in the relationship between organization and environment. Results challenge previous findings of few differences between rural and urban practice and offer particular implications for rural child welfare practice.

Outcomes of family-centered residential treatment.

This article describes a family-centered residential treatment model and presents results from a quasiexperimental study examining its effectiveness in achieving permanency outcomes for children. Greater postdischarge stability was achieved for participants in the family-centered program than in the agency's standard residential treatment service. Implications for child welfare policy and practice are highlighted.
