Maladaptive Daydreaming (MD) is an excessive absorption in vivid fantasies interfering with individuals' daily functioning, which has been associated with adverse psychological outcomes and adult attachment insecurities. However, no study to date has addressed the relationships between MD, parental care, unresolved attachment, and psychological symptoms (depression/anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder; OCD) in a sample of young adults. In this study, 1295 young adults (401 males) completed an online survey including the Parental Bonding Instrument, Maladaptive Daydreaming Scale, Adult Unresolved Attachment Questionnaire, and the DSM-5 Level 1 Cross-Cutting Symptom Measure.

Quantum scattering is used ubiquitously in both experimental and theoretical physics across a wide range of disciplines, from high-energy physics to mesoscopic physics. In this Letter, we uncover universal relations for the energy fluctuations of a quantum system scattering inelastically with a particle at arbitrary kinetic energies. In particular, we prove a fluctuation relation describing an asymmetry between energy absorbing and releasing processes which relies on the nonunital nature of the underlying quantum map.

The supraspinatus tendon plays a crucial role in shoulder abduction, making it one of the common structures affected by injury. Clinically, crescent-shaped tears are the most commonly seen tear shape. By developing six specimen-specific, three-dimensional, supraspinatus-infraspinatus finite element model with heterogeneous material properties, this study aimed to examine the changes in tissue deformation (maximum principal strain) of the supraspinatus tendon due to specimen-specific material properties and rotator cuff tear size.

Folate enzymes, namely, dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) and pteridine reductase (PTR1) are acknowledged targets for the development of antiparasitic agents against Trypanosomiasis and Leishmaniasis. Based on the amino dihydrotriazine motif of the drug Cycloguanil (Cyc), a known inhibitor of both folate enzymes, we have identified two novel series of inhibitors, the 2-amino triazino benzimidazoles () and 2-guanidino benzimidazoles (), as their open ring analogues. Enzymatic screening was carried out against PTR1, DHFR, and thymidylate synthase (TS).

The development of biosafe theranostic nanoplatforms has attracted great attention due to their multifunctional behavior, reduced potential toxicity, and improved long-term safety. When considering photoacoustic contrast agents and photothermal conversion tools, melanin and constructs like melanin are highly appealing due to their ability to absorb optical energy and convert it into heat. Following a sustainable approach, in this study, silver-melanin like-silica nanoplatforms are synthesized exploiting different bio-available and inexpensive phenolic acids as potential melanogenic precursors and exploring their role in tuning the final systems architecture.

Hydrogen is expected to largely contribute to the near-future circular economy. Today, most hydrogen is still produced from fossil fuels or renewable pathways with low efficiency and high cost. Herein, a proof of concept for a novel hydrogen production process is proposed, here named cyan hydrogen inspired by a combination of the green and blue processes, due to the key role played by water and the low carbon content in the gas phase, respectively.

Osteoporosis and fragility fractures (FFs) are considered critical health problems by the World Health Organization (WHO) because of high morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. The occurrence of a FF raises the risk of a subsequent fracture (refracture). The hip is the most common site of fragility refracture, and its onset is associated with a further increase in patient's morbidity, mortality, and socioeconomic burden.

This work tackles the problem of image restoration, a crucial task in many fields of applied sciences, focusing on removing degradation caused by blur and noise during the acquisition process. Drawing inspiration from the multi-penalty approach based on the Uniform Penalty principle, discussed in previous work, here we develop a new image restoration model and an iterative algorithm for its effective solution. The model incorporates pixel-wise regularization terms and establishes a rule for parameter selection, aiming to restore images through the solution of a sequence of constrained optimization problems.

Increased rates of anxiety and depression have been reported for older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, little is known regarding the onset of mental health morbidity during the acute phase of the disease and the role of age as potential independent risk factor for psychiatric symptoms. The cross-sectional association between older age and psychiatric symptoms has been estimated in a sample of 130 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 during the first and second wave of the pandemic.

In order to reveal mechanisms to control and manipulate spin currents, we perform a detailed investigation of the dephasing effects in the open XX model with a Lindblad dynamics involving global dissipators and thermal baths. Specifically, we consider dephasing noise modeled by current-preserving Lindblad dissipators acting on graded versions of these spin systems, that is, systems in which the magnetic field and/or the spin interaction are growing (decreasing) along the chain. In our analysis, we study the nonequilibrium steady state via the covariance matrix using the Jordan-Wigner approach to compute the spin currents.

The COVID-19 pandemic evokes high levels of post-traumatic stress (PTS) in some people as well as positive personal changes, a phenomenon known as post-traumatic growth (PTG). Experiencing an adverse event as traumatic is crucial for triggering PTG, therefore higher PTS is often associated with higher PTG. This longitudinal study examined the protective role of psychological flexibility in fostering PTG in a group of people reporting high PTS related to COVID-19 as compared to those with low PTS.
