Seven isolates of the New Jersey serotype of vesicular stomatitis (VSNJ) virus were obtained from pooled specimens of phlebotomine sand flies, Lutzomyia shannoni Dyar, collected on Ossabaw Island, Chatham County, Ga., in 1989 and 1990. Three isolates, including two from males, were obtained from light-trapped sand flies in 1989.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFour viral contaminants have been routinely detected in unprocessed and commercial lots of fetal bovine serum: bacteriophage, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, parainfluenza-3 and bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV). Of those, BVDV is consistently present in a majority of commercial lots of fetal bovine serum. Methods for BVDV detection and removal are reviewed.

The Dartmouth COOP, a primary care research network, developed nine pictorial Charts to efficiently measure patient function in busy office practice. Each Chart has a five-point scale, is illustrated, and can be self-administered or administered by office staff.

Five experiments are reported in which subjects judged the movement or spatial location of a visible object that underwent a combination of real and induced (illusory) motion. When subjects attempted to reproduce the distance that the object moved by moving their unseen hands, they were more affected by the illusion than when they pointed to the object's perceived final location. Furthermore, pointing to the final location was more affected by the illusion when the hand movement began from the same position as that at which the object initially appeared, as compared with responses that began from other positions.

The National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) routinely monitors continuous cell lines (CCL's) used for veterinary biologicals and diagnostic virology. All veterinary biologicals produced in CCL's must follow the master seed concept which limits the use of the master seed CCL to up to 20 passages beyond the passage level characterized and deposited at NVSL. All CLL's are evaluated for the presence of adventitious agents such as mycoplasma, bovine viral diarrhea virus, and other bacteria and viruses.

A partialsynthetic dilinolenoylglycerophosphocholine is used as substrate in the form of mixed micelles with Twenn-20. Pentadienoic fatty acids primarily produced by venom phospholipase-A2 are peroxydized in a second step quantitatively.
