The rhizome concept proposed by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari offers a novel perspective on the organization and interdependence of complex constellations of heterogeneous entities, their mapping and their ruptures. The emphasis of the present study is placed on the dynamics of contacts and communication among such entities that arise from experimentation, without any favored hierarchy or origin. When applied to biological evolution, the rhizome concept integrates all types of heterogeneity resulting from "symbiotic" relationships among living beings (or their genomic material), horizontal genetic transfer, recombination and mutation, and breaks away from the approach that gives rise to the phylogenetic tree of life.

This article summarizes data collected from key informants in Iowa, Maryland, and Oklahoma regarding efforts to support integrated employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We highlight features that contribute to the effectiveness of collaborative structures that have resulted in each state's success in achieving integrated employment outcomes for individuals with IDD across three state systems: IDD, vocational rehabilitation, and education. We present these features using the seven elements of the High-Performing States Employment Model.

In 2019, the first cases of SARS-CoV-2 were detected in Wuhan, China, and by early 2020 the first cases were identified in the United States. SARS-CoV-2 infections increased in the US causing many states to implement stay-at-home orders and additional safety precautions to mitigate potential outbreaks. As policies changed throughout the pandemic and restrictions lifted, there was an increase in demand for COVID-19 testing which was costly, difficult to obtain, or had long turn-around times.

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is a multidisciplinary intervention forming the cornerstone of chronic respiratory disease management, improving individuals' exercise capacities and abilities to complete activities of daily living (ADLs). Although the occupational therapy (OT) scope of practice focuses on similar outcomes as PR, the tasks/roles and benefit of including OT in PR has not been reviewed. This scoping review synthesized the i) tasks/roles, ii) recommendations of guidelines, iii) prevalence and iv) effects of OT as part of PR programs.

Background: Chronic respiratory diseases are highly prevalent and compromise an individual's ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) and participate in meaningful life roles. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is a well-established intervention aimed at restoring an individual's exercise capacity and improving their ability to complete their ADLs. Occupational therapists help individuals engage in meaningful "occupations," improving their health and well-being.

Non-bilayer phospholipid arrangements (NPA) are lipid associations different from the bilayer, formed by the interactions of conic anionic lipids and divalent cations that produce an inverted micelle which is inserted between the lipid layers, so the polar heads of the outer lipids spread and expose new antigens. Since these structures are transient, they are not immunogenic, but if they are stabilized by drugs, such as chlorpromazine, they become immunogenic and induce anti-NPA antibodies that trigger a lupus-like disease in mice. Chloroquine is a drug used for the treatment of lupus; chloroquine has a quinoline ring and two positive charges that interact with conic anionic lipids and prevent or revert the formation of NPA.

The image of Our Lady of Copacabana, a gilded polychrome sculpture carved in maguey wood in 1583, is one of the most important devotions in the Americas. In former research, we have identified the use of gypsum, Armenian bole, cerussite and atacamite in its polychromy. In this study, a red sample taken from the Virgin's tunic and a blue sample extracted from the cloak have been analysed with the aim to identify both pigments and offer insights into the painting technique.

Systemic lupus erythematosus is characterized by dysregulated activation of T and B cells and autoantibodies to nuclear antigens and, in some cases, lipid antigens. Liposomes with nonbilayer phospholipid arrangements induce a disease resembling human lupus in mice, including IgM and IgG antibodies against nonbilayer phospholipid arrangements. As the effect of these liposomes on the innate immune response is unknown and innate immune system activation is necessary for efficient antibody formation, we evaluated the effect of these liposomes on Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling, cytokine production, proinflammatory gene expression, and T, NKT, dendritic, and B cells.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), previously termed Wegener's Granulomatosis, is an autoimmune small vessel vasculitis which is highly associated with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) and has varied clinical manifestations. Diagnosis hinges on identifying a combination of clinical features of systemic vasculitis, positive ANCA serology, and histological evidence of necrotizing vasculitis, necrotizing glomerulonephritis, or granulomatous inflammation from a relevant organ biopsy. The American College of Rheumatology has also developed a classification criteria focusing specifically on nasal or oral inflammation, abnormal chest radiograph, and abnormal urinary sediment, along with granulomatous inflammation, which helps to distinguish GPA from other forms of systemic vasculitis.

A 50-year-old African-American man presented with acute tubular necrosis (ATN) secondary to hypotension from non-typhoid Salmonella gastroenteritis and bacteraemia. The oliguric phase lasted only 24 h followed by prolonged polyuria for 20 days, with urine output in excess of 16 L/day at maximum. As indexed in PubMed this is only the second published case of this nature since 1974, in which an abrupt oliguric phase of 24 h or less heralded prolonged polyuria in ATN.

We present a case of vertebral osteomyelitis presenting as chest pain. The patient initially underwent a CT chest angiogram to rule out a pulmonary embolism, which incidentally showed a soft tissue vertebral mass at T3-T4 disk space. Subsequent thoracic vertebral MRI was consistent with osteomyelitis with cord compression.

In this study, we have examined the effects of rotenone in primary cultures of hippocampal and dopaminergic neurons in order to obtain insights into the possible mechanisms underlying the neurotoxic effects of this pesticide. The results obtained indicate that a 48-h exposure to rotenone (0.1 microM) produces a complete and selective suppression of axon formation.

The addition of chitosan to whole milk results in dose dependent destabilization and coagulation of the casein micelles and milk fat. The present study evaluates how the presence of chitosan could affect the hydrolysis of this chitosan-induced aggregate by different gastrointestinal proteases (pepsin and trypsin) and by pancreatic lipase. The chitosan-milk aggregate was hydrolyzed by pepsin and trypsin, as evaluated by the UV absorbance of TCA-soluble peptides and by urea-PAGE.

New lithium enolates of alpha-hydroxy ketones, derived from camphor, are evaluated for asymmetric aldol reactions in the presence of lithium chloride. The diastereoselectivity of the reactions between the lithium enolate of 3 and a variety of achiral aldehydes is strongly influenced by the lithium chloride salt. In these instances, the achieved levels of asymmetric induction, typically 95:5 dr, are in the range of those attained in aldol reactions involving the lithium enolate of the methyl ketone 4, which is sterically more demanding.

[reaction: see text]. The asymmetric version of the traditional route for transforming acetylene into alpha-branched carbonyl compounds is now feasible for the first time. The method involves the temporary attachment of camphor to acetylene and gives a remarkably high diastereo- and enantioselectivity.
