Satisfaction and Usability of a Commercially Available Medication Adherence App (Medisafe) Among Medically Underserved Patients With Chronic Illnesses: Survey Study.

Background: Research supports the use of mobile phone apps to promote medication adherence, but the use of and satisfaction with these apps among medically underserved patients with chronic illnesses remain unclear.

Objective: This study reports on the overall use of and satisfaction with a medication adherence app (Medisafe) in a medically underserved population.

Methods: Medically underserved adults who received care for one or more chronic illnesses at a federally qualified health center (FQHC) were randomized to an intervention group in a larger randomized controlled trial and used the app for 1 month (n=30), after which they completed a web-based survey.

The presence of two new disinfectant by-product (DBP) groups in the UK was recently shown using non-target analysis, halogenated-hydroxycyclopentenediones and halogenated-methanesulfonic acids. In this work, we confirmed the structure of 2,2,4-tribromo-5-hydroxycyclopent-4-ene-1,3-dione (TBHCD), and quantified it together with dibromomethanesulfonic acid at 122 ± 34 and 326 ± 157 ng L on average in London's drinking water, respectively (n = 21). We found TBHCD to be photolabile and unstable in tap water and at alkaline pH.

Fortuitous Enantiomeric Self-Rectification of an Unreported Partial Racemisation in the Synthesis of a Chiral Phosphoric Acid: A Warning to Practitioners.

Racemisation without Consequence: MOM deprotection during a routine synthesis of phosphoric acid 1 promoted partial racemisation of the product BINOL 5. Surprisingly, however, after phosphorylation of the partially racemised BINOL, enantiopure acid 1 was isolated. Further inspection revealed that during phosphorylation, unhydrolysed racemic phosphorochloridate 6 precipitated, thus restoring homochirality in the product phosphoric acid 1.

Horse Owners' Knowledge of Fundamental Care and their Perceptions on the Implementation of a Mandatory Certificate of Knowledge.

The aims of this study were to first determine the extent of owners' fundamental knowledge of equine care, second, gain their opinions on the implementation of a mandatory certificate of knowledge and third, to investigate the association of certification on horse owner knowledge. An online survey comprising 23 questions (18 closed, 5 open) was distributed worldwide via snowball sampling, and completed by 1847 horse owners who were all ≥18 years old from 17 different countries. Almost all (96%,  = 1781) completed surveys were usable.

Systematic review and meta analysis of psychological interventions to prevent or treat pediatric chronic disease in rural communities.

Objective: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the effectiveness of psychological interventions at improving physical or mental health outcomes for youth living in rural communities who have, or are at-risk for, any chronic medical condition in comparison to control interventions conducted in rural communities.

Methods: Following prospective registration (OSF.IO/7TDQJ), 7 databases were searched through July 1, 2023.

Wearable Ultrasound System Using Low-Voltage Time Delay Spectrometry for Dynamic Tissue Imaging.

Objective: Wearable ultrasound is emerging as a new paradigm of real-time imaging in freely moving humans and has wide applications from cardiovascular health monitoring to human gesture recognition. However, current wearable ultrasound devices have typically employed pulse-echo imaging which requires high excitation voltages and sampling rates, posing safety risks, and requiring specialized hardware. Our objective was to develop and evaluate a wearable ultrasound system based on time delay spectrometry (TDS) that utilizes low-voltage excitation and significantly simplified instrumentation.

Unravelling ionic liquid solvent effects for a non-polar Cope rearrangement reaction.

The impact of ionic liquids (ILs) on polar reactions is well recognised, however the impact of ILs on non-polar reactions is less well understood or explored. Pericyclic Cope rearrangements are highly concerted, exhibit minimal charge localisation and pass through an uncharged but well-defined transition state, and thus provide a good mechanism for exploring the impact of IL polarizability on chemical reactivity. Recently, a 10× rate enhancement has been observed for the Cope rearrangement of 3-phenyl-1,5-hexadiene in the IL 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide [CCim][NTf] compared to benzene.

Development and Preliminary Validation of an Equine Brief Pain Inventory for Owner Assessment of Chronic Pain Due to Osteoarthritis in Horses.

Effects of a medication adherence app among medically underserved adults with chronic illness: a randomized controlled trial.

For individuals living with a chronic illness who require use of long-term medications, adherence is a vital aspect of successful symptom management and outcomes. This study investigated the effect of a smartphone app on adherence, self-efficacy, knowledge, and medication social support in a medically underserved adult population with various chronic illnesses. Introduction: Little is known about the prevalence of elevated alkaline phosphatase in post-bariatric surgery patients due to under-utilization of this test after surgery. Elevated alkaline phosphatase levels are caused by hepatobiliary disease or bone resorption, which can lead to gallstones and osteoporosis. Surmounting Byproduct Inhibition in an Intermolecular Catalytic Asymmetric Alkene Bromoesterification Reaction as Revealed by Kinetic Profiling.

Kinetic profiling has shown that a (DHQD)PHAL-catalyzed intermolecular asymmetric alkene bromoesterification reaction is inhibited by primary amides, imides, hydantoins, and secondary cyclic amides, which are byproducts of common stoichiometric bromenium ion sources. Two approaches to resolving the inhibition are presented, enabling the (DHQD)PHAL loading to be dropped from 10 to 1 mol % while maintaining high bromoester conversions in 8 h or less. Modernization of a Large Spinal Cord Injuries and Disorders Registry: The Veterans Administration Experience.

Clinical Rotation Handbook Promotes Orthopaedic Resident Wellness: A Quality Improvement Study.

Introduction: Transitioning from one clinical rotation to the next may be particularly stressful for orthopaedic residents attempting to navigate new work environments with new faculty mentors and new patients. The purpose of this quality improvement (QI) project was to determine if resident stress could be improved by using a handbook to disseminate key rotation-specific data during quarterly rotation transition periods.

Methods: A comprehensive electronic handbook was created by residents to describe each rotation in our orthopaedic training program in terms of: (1) faculty and staff contact data, (2) daily clinic and surgery schedules, (3) resident responsibilities and faculty expectations, and (4) key resources and documents.
