CONSTANS (CO) is a central regulator of floral initiation in response to photoperiod. In this study, we show that the GSK3 kinase BIN2 physically interacts with CO and the gain-of-function mutant displays late flowering phenotype through down-regulation of transcription. Genetic analyses show that BIN2 genetically acts upstream of CO in regulating flowering time.

A new porous solid base catalyst was prepared using dewatered paper sludge and successfully employed to produce biodiesel from soybean oil. The as-prepared catalyst was characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermal gravity/differential thermal gravity analysis, Brunauer-Emmet-Teller analysis, and CO-temperature programmed analysis. The results showed that the formation of CaO and uniformly distributed porous structure should account for the high catalytic activity of the as-prepared catalyst.

The energy conversion of electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) is typically lower, which seriously restricts the application of EMATs in the field of non-destructive testing and evaluation. In this work, parameters of surface wave EMATs, including structural parameters and electrical parameters, are investigated using the orthogonal test method to improve the transducer's energy conversion efficiency. Based on the established finite element 2-D model of EMATs, the amplitude of the displacement components at the observation point of a plate is the optimization objective to be maximized with five parameters pertaining to the magnets, meander-line coils, and excitation signal as design variables.

Appropriate regulation of crop seed germination is of significance for agriculture production. In this study, we show that TaJAZ1, most closely related to Arabidopsis JAZ3, negatively modulates abscisic acid (ABA)-inhibited seed germination and ABA-responsive gene expression in bread wheat.
